MultiVersus slams Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam DC failings

As the DCEU enters a new phase, MultiVersus has taken a jab at Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam for underperforming at the box office.

Under the direction of Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, Warner Bros. has initiated a reboot of the DC universe in movies, TV shows, and video games. This new direction has resulted in leaving behind previous films, such as Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, and has paved the way for a fresh approach to the franchise.

Similarly to Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros, MultiVersus features a roster of characters from various Warner Bros. franchises, allowing fans to engage in epic battles within recognizable settings. However, there has been speculation among some fans that the developer may have intentionally referenced The Rock in a recent clip where the Joker delivers a brutal attack on Black Adam in MultiVersus.

As The Batman Who Laughs, The Joker mockingly targets Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, referencing the actor’s previous statement about his character’s role in reshaping the hierarchy of DC films.

Despite Dwayne Johnson’s efforts to generate buzz for the film, Black Adam ultimately fell short of expectations. The movie, in which Johnson portrayed the lead character, was unable to overcome its $260 million budget and received a 38% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, leading to its designation as a critical and commercial failure.

Several videos have been circulating on social media, with numerous fans speculating that they were deliberately created to criticize the underwhelming performance of the Black Adam film. The latest example being MultiVersus, which seems to be joining in on the criticism.

A fan suggested a possible explanation for the inclusion of this particular quote: “While it may be a stretch, it appears to be a form of retaliation from the developers for being pressured to feature Black Adam heavily in the promotional material during the game’s initial launch.”

According to fans, Johnson’s meddling and desire to make himself the focal point of the DCEU above other beloved characters is what ultimately caused the need for a reboot.

Despite Player First Games, the development team behind MultiVersus, not having a specific theme for adding characters to the game, leaked information suggests that they have no intention of straying from the superhero genre.
