On Thursday, August 8, 2024, the television series Murai in Love made a major announcement, revealing significant information such as its release date in September 2024 and its availability for streaming on Disney+ in Japan. This exciting news was unveiled through the series’ second main promotional video, which also introduced new cast members and gave a sneak peek of the opening theme song.
As of the writing of this article, the Murai in Love anime has confirmed its release date on Japanese television for October 2024. However, it will premiere earlier on September 4 on Disney+ in Japan. The international release information has yet to be confirmed.
Murai in Love: Early Anime Streams in Japan, October TV Premiere
As previously stated, the Murai in Love anime will officially start streaming on Disney+ in Japan on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. The show will then make its Japanese television debut on Sunday, October 6, 2024 at 11:30PM JST. Viewers can tune in to watch on Tokyo MX, BS NTV, and Biwako channels.
Recently announced additions to the cast consist of Saori Goto, Mikoi Sasaki, and Yuki Hirose. Goto portrays Yuka Nishifuji, an artist with unparalleled talent whom Tanaka greatly admires. Sasaki takes on the role of Hitomi Nishifuji, Yuka’s younger sister who is passionate about cosplay. Lastly, Hirose plays Yayoi Fukunaga, a character who is deeply infatuated with the main protagonist Murai.
The trio will be joining the previously announced starring cast members, including Kengo Takanashi as Murai, Yoko Hikasa as Ayano Tanaka, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Hitotose, Kohei Amaski as Kiriyama, Haruki Ishiya as Hirai, Masaya Matsukaze as Yamakado, and Hochu Ohtsuka as the series’ narrator. It is currently unknown if these new cast additions, along with the previously announced actors, will make up the entirety of the series’ cast.
The anime at J.C. Staff studios is being directed by Yoshiki Yamakawa, with Susumu Yamakawa overseeing and writing the scripts for the series. Ruka Kawada is responsible for composing the music, and Jin Aketagawa is serving as the sound director. As the streaming premiere of the anime approaches, it is likely that additional staff members will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
The series is based on the manga of the same name by author and illustrator Junta Shima. The manga was originally published on Line Corporation’s Line Manga website from June 2018 to June 2022, just five days shy of completing its four-year run. It was also previously adapted into a live-action series, consisting of eight episodes, which aired on TBS from April to May 2022.
The Murai in Love anime focuses on the main character, a modest high school student who expresses his feelings for his teacher, Tanaka. Although she is a fan of otome games for girls, she promptly rejects his confession. However, undaunted, Murai shows up to school the following day with a complete transformation, mimicking Tanaka’s favorite otome game character in an attempt to win her over.
