A Recap of Episode 22 of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation season 2
The latest installment, Episode 22, began with Paul and his companions reaching the sixth level of the labyrinth. They were greeted by the sight of Zenith, frozen in ice and guarded by a Hydra. Despite the danger, Paul immediately charged forward to battle the creature, causing the rest of the group to panic. Knowing that Paul could potentially face a difficult situation alone, his friends were there to offer their support.
After realizing that their magic-based attacks were ineffective against the Hydra, Rudeus and Roxy made the decision to retreat. They had not planned for this encounter, so they returned to the fifth level to rest and discuss their next moves.
Upon reflection, Rudeus remembered the tale of Hercules’ encounter with the Lernanean Hydra and confidently suggested that by severing the Hydra’s heads and searing the wounds, its ability to regenerate would be hindered.
Rudeus claimed that he was uncertain of Zenith’s fate beneath the frozen layer, causing Paul to become enraged. He was bothered by his son’s seemingly collected demeanor in the face of such uncertainty. Even Rudeus acknowledged his own unusual calmness, which he attributed to the long period of time he had spent apart from his mother, resulting in her feeling like a stranger to him.
Despite their ongoing battle, Paul took a moment to express his gratitude to everyone and make a request of Rudeus: to protect his mother at all costs. Upon returning to the sixth level, Paul continued to lead the charge while the rest of the team worked together seamlessly. Rudeus’s theory was proven correct as they successfully defeated all of the Hydra’s heads, leaving only one remaining.
Despite the near-fatal blow from the last head, Rudeus was saved by Paul just in time. With his left hand, Rudeus managed to pierce through the Hydra’s head and unleash his unsettling magic. Roxy then delivered the final blow with her fire attack. Though he had lost his left hand, Rudeus was grateful that they were able to defeat the creature. However, his relief was short-lived as he was horrified to discover Paul’s lifeless body, severed in two halves, right in front of him.
Despite the shock of losing his father, Rudeus was unable to find the words to express himself. With Zenith still unconscious, the group made the decision to cremate Paul’s remains on the sixth floor before freeing her.
When the news was finally revealed to Lilia and the rest, they were completely devastated. Lilia urged Rudeus to take a break when she saw him in a state of shock. After Zenith woke up from her decade-long sleep, Rudeus and Lilia were heartbroken to discover that she had not only lost her ability to speak, but also her memories.
What to anticipate in the next episode of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (season 2, episode 23 – speculative)
The upcoming episode 23 of “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation”is titled “Let’s Go Home,”and will follow Rudeus as he brings his mother to his home in Ranoa. Along with Elinalise and Roxy, others will also be joining them. It is expected that the episode will deliver a heart-wrenching finale as Rudeus prepares to break the news of his father Paul’s passing to his sisters.
