In the light novel series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, Hitogami, also known as the Human God, is portrayed as a cunning and manipulative figure who operates in secrecy. Despite his amiable demeanor, he is actually a self-absorbed being who manipulates his followers for his own gain. However, in the anime adaptation, it is revealed that he genuinely cares for Rudeus Greyrat and takes on a nurturing role in his life.

Despite the truth, Hitogami manipulates Rudeus into being his pawn in order to avoid any changes to a future that does not align with his own desires. In episode 18 of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation season 2, Rudeus challenges Hitogami on his motivations for preventing him from traveling to Begaritt.

As usual, Hitogami avoids speaking the truth and instead dances around the issue, mentioning how Rudeus ultimately found happiness by following his advice. However, if Rudeus chooses to listen to his instincts and fulfill his duties, he will not only avoid any potential problems but also become an adversary of Hitogami.

Hitogami is preventing Rudeus from going to Begaritt because he believes it will lead to a future that will result in his downfall. According to Hitogami’s future sight, Rudeus will reunite with Roxy Migurdia, his former magic tutor, which Hitogami wants to avoid.

In accordance with his foresight, Rudeus and Roxy’s marriage results in the birth of Laura, a child who is fated to end his life. However, in reality, Hitogami is a malevolent being who takes pleasure in the suffering of others and can even be seen laughing at their misfortune.

Despite the anime being behind the current storyline of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation light novel, it is revealed that Hitogami is not the true Human God, but rather an malevolent being who took over the role of the original Hitogami.

Hitogami’s involvement in tampering with the world includes manipulating the First Dragon God to destroy the other four worlds, deceiving Badigadi into splitting Laplace into two beings, and other similar actions. Since Hitogami is unable to directly alter future events, he relies on his apostles to carry out his bidding.
