On July 24th, BamBam, a member of GOT7 and a solo singer, caused concern among fans with his recent SNS post. In his post, which read, “I just want to sleep and not wake up, so I can finally rest,” he expressed his desire for a break. As fans expressed their worries about his well-being, BamBam clarified, “I have been under a lot of pressure and stress, and my body has not been feeling well for a while now. Sometimes, I get emotional due to this. I apologize for causing any concern.” Fans can now feel relieved as BamBam gears up for his solo comeback next month, knowing that his pressure and stress are related to his upcoming album.
Despite the seemingly serious nature of BamBam’s message, experts assure that his case is not the most severe. From a psychological standpoint, openly expressing feelings of depression or distress is actually viewed as a positive indication. It is when individuals are unable to communicate their emotions and instead suppress them that bigger issues can arise, potentially leading to more detrimental circumstances.
Despite the unfortunate reality that many idols have resorted to taking their own lives as a result of depression and mental health struggles, the music industry has implemented preventative measures in response to these tragedies. In order to prioritize the well-being of their artists, many agencies have established mental health support systems, including counseling services where artists can openly discuss their struggles with professionals and avoid suppressing their emotions. Additionally, if needed, these agencies also offer access to psychiatric medications and treatments.
An official stated that entertainment agencies are now placing a greater emphasis on the mental well-being of their artists and providing them with better care. This includes larger agencies taking the lead in promoting a healthy environment where artists feel comfortable seeking counseling for any psychological challenges they may face. Additionally, idols are encouraged to undergo regular mental health check-ups and receive care through a structured system from their early trainee days.
It has been observed that agencies are now paying more attention to the mental well-being of their artists and implementing practical solutions. This shift towards a more caring system is widely appreciated, especially in comparison to the past when group activities and schedules took precedence over individual concerns. While group promotions remain important, the agencies now prioritize the health and welfare of their artists. According to an insider, companies have put in place internal mechanisms and protocols that encourage artists to openly discuss their problems and state of mind. In cases of mental or physical struggles, artists are given the necessary support and are allowed to take a break without any hesitation.
In the past, a member’s absence from group activities was viewed as a major concern for the agency, the group, and fans. However, as a result of several instances, people have now come to recognize the significance of an artist’s well-being.
Now, idols are permitted to take more frequent breaks and go on vacations to avoid becoming physically drained, similar to how students have holidays and office workers take vacations. Another source revealed that artists are given scheduled breaks to allow them appropriate time off, just like other employees in the company.
The agencies’ protection of their artists includes taking strict legal action against malicious commenters, who are typically the primary source of mental distress for idols. Due to the widespread presence of these malicious commenters on various social media platforms, agencies are increasing their efforts to sue them and safeguard their artists.
