Musician’s Life Transforms After Serenading Customer at McDonald’s Drive-Thru

After being discovered at a McDonald’s drive-thru by a TikToker, ‘Guitar John’ is now significantly wealthier and has gained the exposure required to showcase his musical talent.

On August 20th, while entering a McDonald’s drive-thru, TikToker Stephen Flynn noticed a man with just his guitar. Intrigued by the musician, Stephen asked him to play a song.

This was when John Metcalfe, known as ‘Guitar John,’ began performing ‘Sultans of Swing’ by Dire Straits. Following Stephen’s TikTok post, John’s incredible talent went viral, with many stating he sounded even better than the original.

As Stephen and Guitar John continued their conversation, the musician soon found himself $7,000 richer after Stephen set up a GoFundMe to help bring him off the streets of Liverpool, UK.

Not only have donations poured in from nearly 500 contributors since his viral moment in August, but the talented guitarist has also received invitations to perform at various venues.

Additionally, Stephen has been by Guitar John’s side throughout the journey, supporting him as he performs both original songs and covers in local bars and broadcasting his performances live on TikTok to further enhance his exposure.

A dentist has also stepped forward, offering Guitar John a “new smile,” which he proudly displays in numerous follow-up videos shared by Stephen.

Regarding the donations raised through his GoFundMe, Guitar John plans to purchase a camper van to travel across the UK and perform his music in various cities. He also wishes to connect with those who have supported him along the way.

Followers of Guitar John’s inspiring journey hope to see him thrive continuously. One fan even suggested he audition for the talent show, Britain’s Got Talent, impressed by his musical skills.

Similar to Guitar John’s experience, an Uber Eats driver named Paul Slobodzian went viral in June after sharing a note with a customer requesting extra funds for his wedding. This led to the creation of a GoFundMe campaign for Paul, allowing him to spend more time with his fiancée.
