Muzan’s Sun Conquest and the Possible End of Upper and Lower Moons in Demon Slayer

Muzan’s Sun Conquest and the Possible End of Upper and Lower Moons in Demon Slayer

Despite being from the Demon Slayer series, Muzan is one of the rare antagonists who has successfully garnered hatred from the entire fanbase. Unlike other villains who may have redeeming qualities or have been shaped by certain circumstances, Muzan is written in a way that prevents fans from empathizing with him.

Despite his evil nature, Muzan is determined to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals. He has no qualms about taking the life of anyone who stands in his way, as long as it brings him closer to his ultimate dream of immortality.

Since his transformation into a demon during the Heian era, his sole desire has been to conquer the sun. This remains his only vulnerability, as there is no other force powerful enough to defeat him. This leads to an intriguing discussion about the fate of Lower and Upper Moon demons, had he succeeded in conquering the sun.

Please note: This article contains major spoilers from the manga chapters.

Why Muzan Would Have Removed the Very Existence of Lower and Upper Moon Demons If He Achieved His Goal

Kibutsuji Muzan’s desire to conquer the sun stemmed from the fact that it was the only element capable of destroying a demon. However, after being given an incomplete medicine by a Heian period doctor, he began to experience severe side effects. This caused him to develop a craving for human flesh, making sunlight his ultimate weakness.

His sole requirement for achieving victory over the sun was the Blue Spider Lily. This was the main reason behind his decision to transform Nezuko into a demon, as he was curious to see if a demon could withstand the harmful effects of sunlight.

It is important to realize that the Lower and Upper Moon demons are among the most formidable enemies. The Upper Moon demons, who all serve Muzan, possess incredible strength. Muzan is so powerful that he did not require protection and it took the collective strength of the entire Demon Slayer Corps to defeat him. So why did he create the Upper Moon demons? It is possible that he did so to aid in his search for the Blue Spider Lily and expedite his quest to conquer the sun.

After accomplishing his goal, Muzan would have become the most dominant being on Earth. No human would be able to defeat him, as the one weakness of demons would no longer affect him. Muzan was not one to share his powers with others, valuing their lives very little. This was evident in the way he mercilessly slaughtered almost all the Lower Moon demons in a fit of rage.

If he had successfully reached his goal and conquered the sun, he would have eliminated all of the Upper Moon demons and continued to instill fear on his own. This is why many fans speculate that the existence of both Upper and Lower Moon demons would have been eradicated if he had conquered the sun by the end of this shonen series.
