The developers behind the MW2 H2M mod explained the reason for Activision’s decision to shut down their Modern Warfare Remastered mod, stating that it could lead to a decrease in sales for Black Ops 6.
In recent days, the H2M mod for Modern Warfare Remastered has garnered significant attention for its efforts to introduce MW2 multiplayer elements to the remastered game, which has been around for seven years.
Nevertheless, the excitement surrounding the mod quickly transformed into frustration towards Activision when the developers received a cease and desist order just one day before the scheduled launch.
Following the mod’s shutdown, its creator provided an explanation to H2M about the reasons for its discontinuation, citing Activision’s decision as the cause.
Watchful Wolf, the creator of the H2M mod, released a video in which he revealed that Activision expressed concern about the mod potentially impacting sales of the upcoming Black Ops 6.
“Watchful Wolf stated that due to the rising popularity of H2M and its close proximity to the release of Black Ops 6, the marketing and release of the beta were strategically planned to avoid any potential interference with sales for Black Ops 6.”
Despite receiving suggestions to create it on Black Ops 3, which is known for being more mod-friendly, Watchful Wolf addressed that the game’s installment would not have made a difference as it would have still been taken down due to its proximity to Black Ops 6.
Watchful Wolf disclosed that H2M had planned on releasing their mod in a few hours when Activision’s cease and desist letter was received. The team had already activated their servers and were making final updates to the mod.
In terms of future plans for the H2M development team, he mentions that they will collaborate with the Sm2 mod team in order to utilize their skills acquired from working on the mod and develop their own FPS shooter.
Prior to H2M’s downfall, Sm2 was also a mod that was terminated by Activision in May 2023, resulting in the cancellation of their development.
