Despite the regular buffs and nerfs to maintain a competitive meta, one Marksman Rifle in Modern Warfare 3 has remained “useless”since its launch, leaving players puzzled as to why it hasn’t been improved.
Despite having a limited selection of popular choices in multiplayer, the Marksman Rifle category is dominated by the iconic Kar98k. However, many fans believe that the MCW 6.8 is the weakest option in its class and is in dire need of a buff.
The Reddit user known as ‘Latro2020′ recently posted a question, wondering, “Why is this gun still considered useless?”They then proceeded to criticize the rifle for being “terrible”to use since its release.
The OP stated that they searched the subreddit to determine if they were simply not skilled enough and if the gun was not as terrible as they initially believed. However, they came across posts from the time of the gun’s release that discussed its poor performance.
“Even after 5 seasons, this gun is still outmatched by everything except for newer weapons like the Superiori and STG, which it will lose to every time.”
Despite its reputation for being weak in both MW3 and Warzone, the MCW 6.8 has not received many updates in the regular balancing changes. The most recent adjustment occurred in Season 5, with the last change being a nerf in Season 2.

Many other MW3 players shared the same sentiment as the OP, stating that only a few weapon categories are actually effective in the majority of matches.
One response stated that the 30-round mag is necessary, but it is still not very effective. They mentioned that it takes one headshot to kill, but by then, it would be more practical to switch to a different weapon. Another comment added, “This is typical in SHG’s Call of Duty, where only assault rifles and SMGs are worth using.”
In addition, some fans mentioned that the MCW 6.8 is quite effective in Hardcore matches due to the lower health levels, allowing the rifle to deliver a one-shot kill.
Some also noted that the Full-Auto Conversion Kit increases its usability slightly. However, it was later given a nerf to its magazine capacity, decreasing it from 30 to 20 after its initial release.
Despite the upcoming major update of MW3 Season 5 Reloaded, the release of Black Ops 6 in October and its introduction of a new set of weapons may make it too late for the MCW 6.8 to establish itself as a dominant choice in the meta.
