Despite the original My Hero Academia (MHA) manga series by creator, author, and illustrator Kohei Horikoshi going on a break this week, fans of Masashi Kishimoto’s Boruto and Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen have been eagerly discussing and theorizing about the upcoming issue’s events on X throughout the week. These two fandoms have remained highly active and engaged.
Despite being on break, fans of MHA have not been quiet this week, especially following last week’s thrilling episode. This has led to the other two communities starting to criticize the My Hero Academia fandom, accusing it of being too similar to “Mickey Mouse”and “Disney”series.
Predictably, the My Hero Academia fanbase is not accepting this quietly, as they are now making similar accusations towards both Akutami’s and Kishimoto’s works. Furthermore, although Jujutsu Kaisen has not experienced a resurgence on par with “Disney,”recent leaks for Boruto hint at a highly unexpected comeback in the history of the Naruto franchise.
My Hero Academia fans readily point out Jujutsu Kaisen and Boruto being Disney series level
Fans of My Hero Academia witnessed in the most recent chapter that Deku’s missing arms were starting to regenerate thanks to Eri’s Quirk. In order to activate her Quirk, Eri sacrificed her horn and entrusted it to Shota Aizawa, who then used it on Deku. As a result, the Rewind process was activated and his arms began to regrow.
It was expected that numerous general anime enthusiasts and followers of other series would criticize Horikoshi and his manga for having the same level of substance as a “Mickey Mouse”cartoon – implying a lack of depth and tension. However, supporters of Horikoshi’s work refused to accept these allegations without a fight.
Fans of My Hero Academia quickly noticed that the latest leaks for the Boruto manga brought back Kurama, the Nine-Tails, through Himawari Uzumaki. Additionally, there is a strong desire among Jujutsu Kaisen fans for the return of Satoru Gojo, which could also be considered a development similar to those seen in Disney series.
The supporters of Horikoshi’s series are essentially just highlighting other instances of comparable writing decisions in current shonen manga, or fulfilling requests from followers of specific series.
Fan Reaction
It is not surprising that numerous My Hero Academia fans are expressing their support for the initial post, along with fans of Akutami’s series. Some of these individuals even argue that the mentioned examples do not reach the level of “Mickey Mouse.”
“Gege hates him too much gang but u right tho,” said one fan.
“Neither are Mickey Mouse but if Gege brings him back I will lose all interest in the series. His conclusion was perfect to me,” said another.
“The Mickey Mouse clubhouse is angry [skull emoji],” said a third.
Some individuals are expressing their disagreement with the initial post, either by stating that Gojo’s comeback is guaranteed or by discussing the possibility of Gojo being resurrected and Kurama’s return being comparable to a Disney series.
“Grasping at straws knowing that your Mickey mouse manga is just so mid, and you dont have any [arguments] to defend yourself [crying laughing emoji],” said one fan.
“How are people upset kurama’s back? There’s literally foreshadowing from og Naruto. Ain’t these the same mfs that were mad when he died? Or are they just upset he respawned in himawari?,” said another.
The issue of unnecessary revivals and a lack of consequences is a delicate subject for all three fandoms, particularly for My Hero Academia. However, followers of each franchise are either eagerly anticipating or optimistic about these developments. Everyone has their own perspective.
