My Hero Academia Chapter 421’s Avengers Reference Proves Once Again That Horikoshi Is a True Marvel Fan

On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, the supposed spoilers and early scans for My Hero Academia chapter 421 were leaked, signaling the anticipated return of Kohei Horikoshi’s original manga series. Despite not being officially released by Shueisha, the spoilers have a track record of being highly accurate to the final version.

Similarly, viewers were eagerly anticipating the continuation of the final showdown between All For One and the Class 1-A students in chapter 421 of My Hero Academia. However, there were mixed reactions among fans as some felt that creator Horikoshi was rushing through the battle too quickly, leading to concerns that certain Class 1-A students may not receive adequate attention.

Despite the inclusion of several additional Pro Heroes, My Hero Academia chapter 421 saw a large number of people arriving to the fight through Kurogiri’s portals. This decision may have unfortunately taken away from the opportunity for Deku’s classmates to showcase their abilities, but it did provide fans with an exciting exchange. This once again demonstrates Horikoshi’s love for Marvel and its impact on his work.

My Hero Academia chapter 421: Deku’s Endgame Moment with the Arrival of His Allies

Similarly to the original MCU scene in Captain America, My Hero Academia chapter 421 pays homage to this iconic moment by showcasing a large influx of forces joining the protagonist just when all seemed lost. This moment, often referred to as an “Endgame moment”, is a tribute to the film’s title and is a significant moment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Dr. Strange’s portals were used to teleport forces from different parts of the world, while Deku’s allies arrived through Kurogiri’s portals to save him when all seemed lost and his death was imminent. The most recent release took this concept even further, resulting in a perfect reimagination.

Similarly to the Endgame scene, chapter 421 of My Hero Academia showcases a panoramic view of all of Deku’s comrades readying themselves for battle despite their injuries. This clever nod to Endgame further cements the series as a tribute to comics as a whole, with a special focus on the beloved Marvel franchise.

Similarly, the author’s dedication to showcasing his love for Marvel is evident in the way he carefully crafted this picture-perfect Endgame reference. Although the series was naturally leading to this moment, Horikoshi’s use of framing in chapter 421’s double spread highlights the extra effort he put in for this reference.

The final chapter of 421 also solidifies Horikoshi’s identity as a fan of comics, as Deku’s supposed “last stand”has a strong resemblance to Marvel Comics. It is yet to be seen if this influence will continue in the next release, but Horikoshi has certainly infused some Marvel magic into his latest unofficial manga installment.
