My Hero Academia: Explanation for Star and Stripe’s Incomplete Quirk Effect on Shigaraki

Despite using her Quirk, Star and Stripe was unable to defeat Tomura Shigaraki in the first episode of My Hero Academia Season 7. This was because her powers did not have an effect on Shigaraki, and here is the reason why.

The seventh season of My Hero Academia premiered in May as part of the Spring 2024 lineup. It has quickly become one of the top anime of 2024, wowing audiences with its first episode.

The highly anticipated fight between Star and Stripe and Shigaraki marked the strong start of My Hero Academia Season 7 in Episode 1. As USA’s No. 1 Pro Hero, Star showcased her impressive skills by overpowering Shigaraki multiple times and proving herself as a formidable opponent.

Despite her attempt to use her Quirk, New Order, to kill him by assigning a rule, Shigaraki was unaffected and managed to survive. As a result, he is now ready to unleash his full power in the upcoming episode.

Why Star and Stripe’s Quirk Did Not Fully Work on Shigaraki in My Hero Academia

Although Star and Stripe’s Quirk was intended to work on Shigaraki, it was not completely effective due to her rule being set for Tomura Shigaraki. This is because the villain currently has the consciousness of All For One within him, making him not entirely the same as Tomura Shigaraki.

During the confrontation between Star, Stripe, and Shigaraki, Star swiftly gained the upper hand by using New Order. The battle between the two sides was fierce, but ultimately, Star managed to trap Shigaraki and impose a new condition on him. According to her rule, Shigaraki’s heart would stop beating if he made any movements.

Although Shigaraki had survived, the Pro Hero was still shocked. In his inner thoughts, he disclosed that he was no longer Tomura Shigaraki. He was not All For One or Tenko Shimura either. He had transformed into something entirely different and his intense hatred continued to fuel his strength.

At their first encounter, Shigaraki was at a disadvantage as he had no knowledge about her Quirk. Nevertheless, this event helped him gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of New Order and its limitations, despite its seemingly all-powerful appearance.

If Star and Stripe assigns a rule to a living creature with a sense of self, the affected individual must also possess a similar sense of identity. In order for the rule to be effective, she must physically touch the person and include their name. If the name is incorrect or the individual does not identify with it, the rule will not be successful under the New Order.

Despite All For One’s essence residing within him, Shigaraki was able to survive the powerful rule. This decision would ultimately prove to be detrimental for Star and Stripe, as it provided the villain with all the necessary information on New Order.

Star and Stripe will face off against Shigaraki in Episode 2, which is set to be released on May 11, 2024 according to the My Hero Academia release schedule. Crunchyroll is currently streaming Season 7 of My Hero Academia.
