My Hero Academia Season 7: The Controversial Opening That Has Split the Fandom

Despite its immense popularity and devoted fanbase, My Hero Academia has been at the center of ongoing controversy. In recent years, the fandom has become divided with some claiming that the anime’s production and overall quality have declined, while others argue that the negative reactions and perceived decrease in quality are exaggerated.

Despite being animated by Studio Bones, there has been a steady increase in complaints about the animation quality of the anime. The most recent season premiered with the first episode directed by Naomi Nakayama. While the episode received widespread praise from My Hero Academia fans, the opening sequence caused dissatisfaction among some viewers.

How Fans Reacted to the New Opening

Despite the fandom’s nearly equal division in their reactions to the new opening, there are many who have strongly voiced their dissatisfaction with it.

“Sad how since the rise of popularity ”sakuga” I feel that this has become the only artistic validation by shonen fans, but whatever beautiful opening and it matches the atmosphere of the music and the introspective mood of this beginning of the arc,”One fan wrote.

Despite the positive reception of the new opening’s animation, some fans have noted that the recent increase in animation quality has caused them to overlook its overall good animation spread throughout various sequences.

Several fans pointed out the disconnect between the scenes, sounds, and overall composition of the opening sequence, which contributed to an overall feeling of incompleteness.

“This stinks. The chorus was alright but the visuals don’t fit the speed of the music for the most part and are quite boring,”one fan wrote.

Despite some fans noting that the song and a handful of opening scenes align with the current story’s tone, the combination of different scenes and music creates a disjointed feel and emphasizes the absence of a clear direction.

Some fans seized the chance to express their opinion that the atmosphere, color palette, and tone portrayed in the anime opening are superior to those in the actual episodes.

“MHA animators if they actually locked tf in, seriously why couldnt they animate the show like this, instead we got that sky, the most bland color pallete and honestly subpar animation since season 5,”another fan said.

This statement was made to criticize the poor animation quality in the previous seasons of My Hero Academia.

Some fans also suggested that a simple change in colors could have greatly improved the quality of the previous seasons for Studio Bones.

One other fan took advantage of this chance to denounce the forced hatred towards the series.

“I’m convinced that all of Twitter share the same hive mind. Don’t let these bums convince you that this opening isn’t good,”the fan wrote.

The fan proceeded to mention how the new anime opening perfectly complements the story and plot lines that will be featured in season 7. Additional fans chimed in, dismissing all the criticism as an overreaction.
