The final chapter of My Hero Academia, also known as its finale, is set to be released on Monday, August 5, 2024. As a result, fans have been eagerly speculating about what they may see before the manga’s ultimate conclusion.
Despite numerous fan theories surrounding a potential reveal of Deku’s father, there are also those who hold onto hope that Deku will regain the One For All quirk. Nevertheless, there is a valid argument for why it may not be in Deku’s best interest to retrieve the One For All quirk.
Despite being born without a quirk in a society where most people were born with one, Izuku Midoriya aspired to become a hero like his idol, the No.1 Hero All Might. His wish came true when he had a life-changing encounter with All Might, who bestowed upon him the chance to inherit the ninth One For All user’s power and become a hero.
This article includes spoilers from the My Hero Academia manga and is solely the author’s personal viewpoint.
Why shouldn’t the My Hero Academia finale return One For All to Deku?
The One For All quirk should not be returned to Deku in the finale of My Hero Academia as it would diminish the significance of the hero’s sacrifice in the ultimate battle against Shigaraki Tomura and All For One.
It would surely be disheartening for Deku to witness his friends achieving their dreams of becoming pro heroes while he himself may be unable to due to his lack of a quirk. However, this does not justify giving Deku his quirk back in the finale of My Hero Academia. After all, it was Deku who made the decision to follow the plan of One For All’s second user, Kudo, in order to defeat Shigaraki Tomura.
In the heat of the battle, Kudo observed that Shigaraki had weaknesses that could be magnified by the One For All quirk vestiges. In order to execute this plan, Deku had to be prepared to sacrifice everything and transfer his quirk to Shigaraki. This selfless act was a testament to the hero’s willingness to make a genuine sacrifice in order to prevent the potential devastation that could have occurred.
As a result, if Deku regains his quirk in the conclusion of My Hero Academia, it would diminish the significance of his sacrifice and diminish the impact it had on the series’ fans.
The central message of My Hero Academia is that heroism is not limited to those with extraordinary powers. This belief is reinforced throughout the story as individuals with non-combat abilities are shown rising to become heroes. Therefore, Deku’s lack of a quirk does not disqualify him from becoming a hero, it simply means he will not possess the same abilities as others.
Similarly, the finale of My Hero Academia could serve as a significant nod to the series’ beginning, when All Might informed Deku that he required a quirk in order to fulfill his dream of becoming a hero. In an unexpected turn, Deku may sacrifice his quirks to protect and rescue everyone, ultimately solidifying his position as the world’s greatest hero.
Although this may be a setback, it does not diminish Deku’s potential to become a hero. His connections with the higher-ups and ability to adapt to new situations suggest that he could potentially join the support course or collaborate with them to find a solution that would allow him to achieve his dream of becoming a professional hero.
Despite losing his quirk long ago, All Might was still able to contribute to the final war by fighting All For One with the help of an armored suit. This paved the way for non-quirk users to also become heroes as long as they had the necessary tools. Therefore, it is possible that Deku, without a quirk, could follow in All Might’s footsteps and excel as a hero by relying on support items and strategic tactics, which are strengths that Deku possesses.
