On April 3, 2024, the official X (previously known as Twitter) for author and illustrator Kohei Horikoshi’s manga series My Hero Academia announced that the series has now reached over 100 million copies in circulation worldwide. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as Horikoshi’s work is one of the first new generation mangas to achieve this milestone, surpassing even the more popular Jujutsu Kaisen by Gege Akutami.
Despite the noteworthy milestone, there are several distinctions between the Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia mangas that could account for the latter achieving this accolade earlier. One potential factor is the discrepancy in the length of each series, with Jujutsu Kaisen only reaching its 26th compilation volume while My Hero Academia is about to release its 40th overall.
Despite this, the My Hero Academia manga has achieved yet another impressive feat, solidifying its position as one of the top-selling manga series of all time. It now joins the ranks of only 21 manga series to have exceeded 100 million copies in circulation.

Along with the announcement of the My Hero Academia manga’s latest achievement, Horikoshi also revealed a special illustration to commemorate the occasion. The artwork showcases protagonist Izuku “Deku”Midoriya alongside All Might, Shoto Todoroki, Katsuki Bakugo, and a cute rendition of Mirio Togata, all celebrating the milestone. Notably, the clothing of the four characters prominently displays the number 100 million in their designs.
The official YouTube channel for Shonen Jump has recently released a new video honoring the series and its legacy. The narration is done by Daiki Yamashita, the voice actor who portrays the protagonist Izuku “Deku” Midoriya in both the television adaptation and the anime franchise’s movies.
To commemorate this achievement, the initial 398 chapters of the manga will be accessible for free on the Jump+ and Zebrack websites. These installments will be unveiled in four sets on a weekly basis, with the final release date being May 1. Additionally, the U.A. Class 1-A students will be featured in newspaper advertisements all over Japan from April 4 to 10.
Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia manga, which debuted in July 2014 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, is currently ongoing and regularly serialized. However, it is currently in its final arc and is anticipated to wrap up sometime in the year 2024.
In April 2016, Studio BONES started creating a TV anime version of the manga series. The seventh season of this adaptation is scheduled to debut in May 2024. Additionally, the franchise has produced three movies, with a fourth slated to hit Japanese theaters in August 2024.
