My Hero Academia pays the biggest ode to Avengers: Endgame in Chapter 420

The release date for chapter 420 of My Hero Academia has been confirmed for Monday, April 15, 2024. Unfortunately, the excitement was dampened when alleged spoilers for the upcoming chapter were leaked days before its official release. Fans of the manga were treated to a glimpse of Shota Aizawa stepping up to lead a massive counterattack against All For One and Tomura Shigaraki, utilizing Kurogiri’s portal creation abilities.

Despite the events in this chapter of My Hero Academia, it is clear that they are not unique to superhero-related media. Similar events have been seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly in the film Avengers: Endgame. Interestingly, the manga further emphasized the inspiration behind this scene.

Please be aware that this article includes spoilers from the My Hero Academia manga.

Based on the purported spoilers for chapter 420 of My Hero Academia, it seems that the primary focus will be on Shota Aizawa. However, this chapter will not simply be a flashback; rather, it will depict how Aizawa and the other heroes joined forces and arrived at the battlefield in a style reminiscent of the Avengers.

Fans of Marvel will recall that in Avengers: Endgame, all the heroes in the cinematic universe joined forces to battle against Thanos and his army. This epic moment involved Doctor Strange and other sorcerers utilizing their portal-making abilities to gather all the heroes on the battlefield.

In chapter 420 of My Hero Academia, a comparable situation occurred. Shota Aizawa convinced Kurogiri to aid him, and with the Nomu’s ability to create portals, they quickly gathered a large group of heroes. Their ultimate goal was to join Deku in the battle against the All For One-enhanced Shigaraki Tomura.

In most cases, a manga creator would prefer to keep the details of their inspiration for a particular scene, particularly the climax of their story, a secret. However, as previously disclosed by the manga creator, he was a devoted fan of Marvel. As a result, it appears that he intentionally wanted to make it clear what influenced his plot development.

To achieve this, Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of the manga, had Shota Aizawa outline their plan in stages.

“Phase 3 of the Divide and Conquer Operation: Start”

As followers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are aware, the term “Phases”is frequently used to describe specific parts of the overall storyline. Given that Avengers: Endgame fell within the third phase of the cinematic universe, the manga creator appears to have had Aizawa reference Phase 3 in his plan.

The heroes arrived at the battlefield through Kurogiri’s portal technique, reminiscent of a scene from the movie. This served as a tribute to Avengers: Endgame in My Hero Academia chapter 420 by manga creator Kohei Horikoshi. It remains to be seen how many other elements from the movie will be incorporated into the final arc of the series.
