My Hero Academia: Deku’s Return to the Battlefield (Season 7, Episode 13)
The 13th episode of My Hero Academia’s 7th season, titled A Chain of Events, Across the Ages, covered chapters 367-369 from the manga. The episode opened with a flashback to the previous episode, where various villains reappeared in different areas of the battlefield. Meanwhile, Izuku Midoriya was in a hurry to reach the main battlefield after the first vestige warned him about a foreboding sense he was experiencing.
In one of the previous episodes, this particular scene was omitted from the source material. As Deku arrived at the battlefield, a U.S. aircraft unexpectedly offered to transport him there. The pilot clarified that he was assisting Deku and his team solely because their hero, Star and Stripe, had unwavering faith in them.
The aircraft suddenly jerked, propelling Deku with enough force to fly through the sky and enter the Coffin in the Sky, where TomurAFO was being preoccupied by Lemillion. In a heroic move, the protagonist impaled the antagonist and rescued Lemillion. This section did not include any anime-original scenes, but the direction intensified the significance of these events.

Upon reaching the ground, Deku was met with a distressing sight. He saw the heroes, including a seemingly lifeless Bakugo, who had been gravely injured. Taking advantage of the situation, TomurAFO accused Deku of being responsible for their current state due to his late arrival. This caused Deku’s meta quirks to spiral out of control, and he was on the verge of launching himself at the villain. Thankfully, Lemillion intervened and prevented him from attacking.
The antagonist anticipated the protagonist’s attack in this state, knowing that Deku would be easily predicted. Lemillion had previously advised him on the importance of heroes turning their fantasies into reality and not succumbing to despair during crucial moments. This advice helped calm Deku, and he focused on TomurAFO, inquiring about Shigaraki’s presence within him.
The battle between Deku and TomurAFO commenced, with the standout being the use of Gearshift, the second vestige’s meta ability. By enhancing his speed and combining it with other abilities, Deku was able to deliver powerful attacks that left a significant impact on the villain. The color contrast and the reappearance of ‘You Say Run’ added to the intensity of these scenes, staying true to the manga while still being incredibly impressive.

Deku dealt the final blow by utilizing Gearshift, which boosted his speed by 120%, and struck the villain, causing the link between All for One and Shigaraki to weaken. Just then, in My Hero Academia season 7 episode 13, the scene shifted to a flashback from the past, revealing the villain’s past actions, including the murder of the second vestige.
Despite All for One’s claim that the second vestige’s ability, Gearshift, was merely a party trick with no potential, the villain couldn’t help but feel despair as he witnessed Deku’s clever utilization of it. However, his determination did not waver and the focus shifted in My Hero Academia season 7 episode 13 to the Central Hospital, where Spinner had transformed into a beast.
The main focus of this chapter was on TomurAFO, who was consumed by hopelessness after being struck by Deku’s seemingly useless quirk. The final portion also closely followed the original material, with minimal alterations.
