My Hero Academia season 7 episode 14: Anime vs Manga Comparison

On August 24, 2024, Studio Bones once again impressed viewers with the release of My Hero Academia season 7 episode 14. True to their reputation, the episode featured exceptional direction and decent animation. While there were some minor deviations from the source material, the most notable change was the clear differentiation between the techniques used by Shoji and Koji.

In the previous episode, the highly anticipated battle between TomurAFO and Deku finally took place. The highlight of the episode was Deku’s meta-quirk Gearshift, which belonged to the second user. Deku was able to unleash its full potential, much to the surprise of All for One, who had dismissed it as a mere party trick.

My Hero Academia: Spinner’s Rampage in Season 7, Episode 14

The 14th episode of season 7 of My Hero Academia, titled Together With Shoji, covers chapters 370-371 and a portion of chapter 372. The chapter begins with a short flashback from Shoji’s past, depicting the mistreatment he faced from others due to being a heteromorph.

The focus of the chapter then turned to the Central Hospital, where Spinner, along with other members of the Paranormal Liberation Front, launched an assault on the facility holding Kurogiri. Pro Heroes, including Mic, were deployed to stop them, but their numbers were no match for the overwhelming force of the villains. It was at this crucial moment that Class A’s Koji and Shoji entered the fray.

Despite Koji’s responsibility for managing the underlings, Shoji faced Spinner alone as he noticed his unusual behavior. After overpowering Spinner, he resorted to activating the quirk given by All for One for emergencies, transforming into a dinosaur-like beast. This section mirrored the corresponding chapters almost identically, with minor adjustments made to enhance the visual aspect of the panels.

Despite being referred to as Meizo Shoji by everyone, Koji couldn’t help but reminisce about the time when Shoji shared his origin story with the group in the school dorms. Shoji, like most heteromorphs, was ostracized and viewed as a curse by those around him. However, his heroic instincts were ignited after rescuing a girl from drowning.

The chapter then shifted back to the ongoing battle between Shoji and a mutant Spinner, with the latter consistently dominating the former. To make matters worse, members of the Paranormal Liberation Front also taunted Shoji. Despite the lack of spontaneity, the fight between Spinner and Shoji showcased impressive choreography.

My Hero Academia: Season 7, Episode 14 – Koji Koda Awakens His Quirk

Upon hearing the villain’s insults towards Shoji, Koji’s quirk was triggered and he immediately unleashed it. In response, Shoji also attacked with his own quirk, using the techniques ‘Hitchcock Birds’ and ‘Octospansion.’ However, in the anime adaptation, the attacks were shown separately, whereas in the manga, they were executed simultaneously.

After executing the attack, Shoji urged Spinner to reconsider his choices as they could also affect their future children. Spinner, still under the influence of All for One’s quirk, was unable to think clearly and continued to wreak havoc until he arrived at the Central Hospital. The final portion of the episode did not contain any significant developments.
