Opening events of My Hero Academia season 7 episode 17: Heroes receive vital assistance from Lady Nagant, Gentle, and La Brava

The episode kicks off with Lady Nagant stepping in to support the heroes despite her weakened state. With Rock Lock’s assistance, she identifies Shigaraki’s location and manages to shoot both his arms, temporarily halting his decay ability. This creates an opening for Deku, who then restrains Shigaraki using his Blackwhip quirk.

Understanding that Shigaraki has regained his quirks, Deku moves the confrontation outside the Coffin in the Sky to shield his friends. In Shigaraki’s mind, AFO attempts to take control, but Shigaraki reveals he had anticipated this and concealed his core for a better chance to regain consciousness.

As AFO seeks to summon Kurogiri to assist him, Kurogiri grapples with conflicting loyalties between his duty to protect Shigaraki and the remnants of Shirakumo’s presence within him.

Meanwhile, Shigaraki manages to break away from AFO’s influence, taking back control of his body to unleash destruction anew. Deku, determined to thwart Shigaraki’s havoc, also recognizes the “crying self”that remains hidden beneath his chaotic exterior.

In another scene, Gentle observes Deku plummeting alongside Shigaraki, unable to stabilize the site any longer with his elasticity. He reflects on whether Deku has placed his trust in him, feeling uncertain if his actions will matter.

At that moment, he sees two U.A. Management Course students filming his heroics with their phones. Despite Gentle’s plea for them to retreat, they insist on staying, citing their responsibility to connect heroes and the public, a task they previously failed with Endeavor.

This revelation makes Gentle regret his earlier actions of infiltrating U.A. Meanwhile, La Brava reactivates the levitation system and hacks the students’ phones to showcase Gentle’s efforts, ensuring his heroism is acknowledged.

The focus then shifts to Kurogiri in a dazed state as Aizawa and Present Mic are pushed out of the sky arena by Toga’s duplicates. Kurogoiri’s warp gate opens up behind them, successfully teleporting the two teachers to safety.

Kaminari questions if Kurogiri just saved their lives, while Mandalay emphasizes the importance of trusting in Deku and the rest of the heroes. At the Gunga Villa, however, the heroes find themselves beseiged by countless Twice doubles.

AFO, realizing Shigaraki’s strong consciousness has thwarted his plan to merge, decides to inject his quirk into Shigaraki to regain control. Hawks intervenes, but AFO manages to land a significant hit on him.

In an unexpected turn of events, Hawks reappears with a different face, bewildering Tokoyami. It’s revealed that the Shiketsu High students have joined the fray. The AFO that struck Hawks was merely an illusion crafted by Camie, while Shishikura joins forces with the real Hawks, and Inasa conjures a storm to disperse Toga’s minions.

This influx of reinforcements turns the tide of the battle, empowering the heroes to foil AFO’s schemes. As AFO intensifies his attacks to instill fear, Inasa declares that their passion will overcome the terror he attempts to sow.

Inspired by this rallying cry, the heroes launch a coordinated offensive. AFO, intrigued by their abilities, attempts to steal their quirks in response but soon finds that the heroes remain resolute.

As AFO gears up to extinguish their hope, Tokoyami makes a dramatic appearance behind him with an immense Dark Shadow, empowered by Inasa’s storm cloud cover. Tokoyami unleashes Dark Shadow Total Release: Light of Baldur, amplified by Inasa’s wind, breaking through AFO’s defenses.

The closing moments of My Hero Academia season 7 episode 17 reveal that both AFO and Hawks have come to understand that Toga’s copies of AFO, Shigaraki, and Dabi cannot utilize their respective quirks. This indicates that the heroes are still not at their breaking point.

Tsuyu deduces that Toga is only capable of using the quirks of those she deeply loves, which extends to her clones formed with Twice’s quirk. During the fray, Tsuyu surmises that this limitation can be bypassed momentarily, giving Toga unrestricted access to any quirk.

To prevent this, Tsuyu, Ochako, and Jiro set out to find Toga’s real form. The episode concludes with Toga mulling over her inability to use the quirks of Shigaraki and Dabi, despite her strong affections for them being equal to her feelings for Ochako and Twice.
