Exploring the origins of Dabi in My Hero Academia season 7 episode 8
The eighth episode of season 7 of My Hero Academia, titled Two Flashfires, covered chapters 350-352 of the manga. The episode began by revisiting Dabi’s backstory, this time focusing on the aftermath of the forest fire incident where he suffered severe burns. All for One saved him and he spent three years in a coma at a facility belonging to the villain before waking up.
Following his awakening, he pleaded with those around him to allow him to go back to his home, where his parents would surely be concerned about his altered appearance. However, the antagonist refused, claiming that his face had transformed beyond recognition and his family would never accept him. This caused Dabi to become enraged and he stormed out of the building.
After returning to his house, he found that nothing had changed. He witnessed Endeavor relentlessly training Shoto, causing him to bury his former identity as Toya Todoroki and embrace his new persona as the villain Dabi. The flashback was depicted exactly as it had been in the manga chapters.
My Hero Academia Season 7 Episode 8: Dabi vs. Todoroki: The Battle Begins
Prior to the start of the battle, Dabi engulfed his entire body in flames, transforming into a nearly unrecognizable figure. He proceeded to taunt both Shoto and their father, Endeavor, and revealed that by shedding his former identity, he had unleashed the full potential of his quirk with no limitations holding him back.
At this moment, a unique anime visual depicted Dabi’s flame transforming from red to blue. He proceeded to retreat and execute a distinct Flashfire Fist, known as Flashfire Fist: Hell Spider, which differed from Endeavor’s technique. This improvised move was enhanced with realistic visuals in the anime.
This action was intended to draw Shoto’s friends away from him, allowing the villain to attack his brother. The attacker then pounced on Shoto, repeatedly striking him and belittling him. Dabi proceeded to use Jetburn, sending Todoroki hurtling into a nearby building.
Todoroki delivered a powerful blow, using another iteration of the Flashfire Fist. This was followed by a flashback in which Shoto shared his plan for defeating Dabi with Midoriya. He skillfully merged his Freeze and Fire quirks, creating a flawless harmony between the two.
Shoto leaped off the building and executed his technique, Flashfire Fist: Phosphor, striking Dabi. He then merged his Flashfire Fist with Icebound Crash: Coldflame’s Pale Blade, creating improvised versions that appeared lifelike.
