An official announcement from Shonen Jump’s account disclosed that Kohei Horikoshi’s one-shot manga, designed for the new My Hero Academia movie, My Hero Academia: You’re Next, was made available through Viz Media on October 8, 2024. Titled My Hero Academia Special One-Shot Manga: A Piece of Cake, this exclusive chapter marks the film’s promotion. My Hero Academia The Movie: You’re Next premiered in Japan on August 2, 2024, and is slated for release in the United States on October 11, 2024.
This film originates from a unique story by Horikoshi, who not only crafted the character designs but also oversaw the film’s production. He has confirmed that the events of the movie fit seamlessly into the existing timeline of the My Hero Academia anime, specifically coinciding with the seventh season.

The newly released one-shot focuses on Class 1-A as they stumble upon Deku’s notebook, which is filled with his thoughts and insights regarding his classmates throughout the series. In the seventh season, Deku is depicted in his Dark Hero outfit socializing with his Class 1-A friends. Unsurprisingly, the reactions to Deku’s notes vary among the students. However, their time of leisure is interrupted by All Might, who calls upon the younger generation.
Closing out the one-shot is a poignant monologue from All Might, wherein he reflects on the conclusion of the Symbol of Peace era and the importance of passing on leadership to his students.
“I wonder how the individual dubbed the ‘mother of the term Quirk’, who once stated Meta abilities are simply human Quirks, would perceive this era I’ve built,” muses a weakened All Might. “‘You, foolish Toshinori Yagi, shouldn’t shy away from the notion of relying on others.’ Would she scold me for that? I sincerely hope so. The era of the symbol is behind us; now, it is their turn.”
The chapter consists of only seven pages, concentrating on situating the characters just before the film’s events. In its concluding pages, it provides a glimpse of new characters like Dark Might, Giulio Gandini, and Anna Scervino, who will appear in the upcoming film, albeit only momentarily.
Dark Might presents a striking contrast to All Might, who lost his robust form after battling All for One. The narrative seems poised to center around confronting a character possessing abilities akin to All Might’s — a figure that Class 1-A holds in high esteem.

Throughout their training, it has become apparent that Deku and Bakugo’s admiration for All Might could be a double-edged sword, potentially compromising their performance against him directly. Despite their development, their respect remains steadfast. A major challenge for Deku in the film may be to overcome his deep-seated fear and respect for his mentor’s great strength, learning that appearances can be deceiving when it comes to vulnerability.
Confronting All Might represents a significant hurdle for Deku, making its exploration in My Hero Academia: You’re Next highly appropriate.
The special one-shot is now available on Viz’s Shonen Jump app.
