The highly anticipated film My Hero Academia: You’re Next is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters on Friday, August 2, 2024. It will be screened simultaneously in various formats such as IMAX, MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema on its launch day. The subtitled trailer, released by TOHO International, has already garnered excitement among fans in the United States, where the film will be released on October 11. Audiences will have the option to watch the film in its original Japanese audio with English subtitles or an English dubbed version.

The film is the fourth installment in the franchise, following the release of Two Heroes, Heroes Rising, and World Heroes’ Mission in chronological order. Two Heroes premiered in Japanese theaters in July 2018, while Heroes Rising debuted in Japan in December 2019. World Heroes’ Mission was released in Japan in August 2021 and later in the United States in October 2021, earning a box office of 10 million USD domestically.

Kohei Horikoshi, the original manga creator, author, and illustrator, is the general supervisor and original character designer for My Hero Academia: You’re Next. The film’s story takes place during the time of the current television anime adaptation, when society has fallen into chaos. The movie begins with the sudden appearance of a massive fortress and a man who bears a striking resemblance to the former Symbol of Peace, All Might.

The film’s main antagonists are reportedly members of the enigmatic and powerful criminal syndicate known as the Gorrini Family. The movie is helmed by director Tensai Okamura and produced by BONES studios, who also worked on the television anime. The team behind the anime and previous films, including scriptwriter Yosuke Kuroda, character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi, and composer Yuki Hayashi, are all returning for this project.

Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine has been serializing Horikoshi’s original manga series since its debut in July 2014. The manga has continuously been published there and is now in its epilogue, with the final 430th chapter expected to be published on Monday, August 5, 2024. The television anime adaptation first aired in April 2016 and is currently in its seventh and possibly final season.
