This year is dedicated to My Hero Academia. In addition to the continuation of the popular show, a new film is also in the works. The stars have also confirmed the placement of You’re Next within the overall canon.
The highly anticipated Season 7 of My Hero Academia is set to debut soon. The Final War Arc will commence, and viewers will be introduced to Star and Stripes, America’s most prominent hero, as the epic showdown between Deku and Shigaraki determines the fate of humanity.
Rest assured, there’s no need to worry! This summer, the highly anticipated fourth anime movie from the beloved franchise, My Hero Academia: You’re Next, will be released. With two major releases in one year, it’s understandable if there is some confusion about the timeline. However, one of the stars has clarified the canon placement of You’re Next.
“According to Daiki Yamashita, the actor playing Deku, the new movie takes place at the same point in the timeline as the anime, similar to the previous films. He believes that this continuity helps to enhance the story by allowing viewers to imagine events happening in the same timeframe.”
Despite the implication that You’re Next may align with a time jump in Season 7, it is more probable that we will witness a continuation of previous movies and it will actually occur after the finale. While World Heroes Mission was released during Season 5, the events take place after that finale and before the start of Season 6. Similarly, Heroes Rising takes place during the events of Season 4 and 5.
Fans may find it even more surprising that You’re Next has been explicitly mentioned as a canon installment. The debate surrounding the canon status of films in franchises such as My Hero Academia has been ongoing, as their events are rarely, if ever, referenced in the show afterwards.
Although Dragon Ball Z’s movies are known to exist in canon purgatory, the latest Spy x Family Code: White does not bring about any changes that need to be acknowledged in the upcoming Season 3. However, the fact that they are not explicitly referenced does not diminish their significance.
The placement of Where You’re Next on this scale will be determined by the events of Season 8 and the current state of the story. Daiki also expressed his hopes for what fans will gain from the highly-anticipated fourth installment on the big screen. He believes that viewers will witness the development of not only Deku, but also the entire Class 1-A. In his opinion, this installment will serve as a poignant reminder of the importance and strength of uniting to fight together.
Supporting each other has been a recurring theme in My Hero Academia, with Deku and his friends often overcoming challenges in their epic battles against evildoers. In You’re Next, they face a new challenge as a mysterious villain known as All Might arrives on the scene.
More information will be revealed during the summer. Make sure to stay updated with our upcoming anime list to see what other shows will be released. Our guides for Demon Slayer Season 4 and Tower of God Season 2 will also be beneficial.
