My Hero Academia fans were left feeling disappointed upon the reveal of a “secret project”following the release of the manga’s final chapter.
Despite the emotional ending to its successful ten-year run, My Hero Academia concluded with Chapter 430. While fans were saddened, they eagerly anticipated the announcement of a “secret project”and other upcoming reveals following the release of the final chapter.
Despite having multiple new projects, none of them proved to be intriguing. The upcoming plans for the manga include the launch of a digital manuscript app service, the release of the final volume, a fan book and an art book, and a special exhibition in 2025.
Despite fans’ continued anticipation, the “secret project”remained a mystery. Some speculated it would be a sequel manga, while others believed it could be an anime adaptation of the spin-off series, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.
Regrettably, it was revealed to be something else entirely. My Hero Academia has instead announced a worldwide fan poll in honor of the conclusion of the beloved series. Fans can cast their votes for the poll between August 5 and September 30, 2024.

The fandom was abuzz with the recent announcement, causing a lot of commotion. Despite the intriguing presentation, readers expressed their disappointment with the latest reveal. One user from the X platform tweeted, “THE MHA SECRET PROJECT TURNED OUT TO BE A POPULARITY POLL!”
“Another person commented that it seemed like they were attempting to rival Tokyo Ghoul for the title of most disappointing announcement of the year.”
“A third person expressed their disappointment, writing, “Is that seriously what that ‘secret announcement’ was? Ugh,”in response to a tweet discussing the announcement.”
“So, this was the big announcement? I must say, I’m quite disappointed,”a fourth person expressed.
Despite the overall dissatisfaction within the fandom, there are also many who are showing their support for the decision to not announce a sequel. It is important to recognize that the creator, Kohei Horikoshi, has been putting in tremendous effort into My Hero Academia and has even faced health issues. As the series has now come to an end, it is only fair that he takes some time to rest and recharge.
“While I am disappointed that the announcement was not a sequel or spin-off, I am also happy. Horikoshi deserves a well-deserved break,”wrote one fan.
“I agree,”chimed in another person. “He consistently claimed to be exhausted and suffering from health problems. It would be cruel to force him to begin an epilogue so soon.”
At present, supporters of the manga will have to settle for My Hero Academia: You’re Next as the new anime film is currently showing in Japanese theaters.
