My Hero Academia’s Potential Heroic Sacrifice Causes Division Among Fans

Some My Hero Academia fans are divided on the potential fate of one character, speculating that they may be on the path towards a “heroic sacrifice”.

Yuga Aoyama initially appears as a minor character in My Hero Academia. Yet, as the U.A Traitor Arc unfolds in the manga, his true significance in the story is revealed. From that point on, he undergoes significant character growth.

Despite being exposed as the betrayer of U.A. and a loyal follower of All For One, Aoyama emerges as a compelling character to watch. Not only was his hidden allegiance shocking, but his true background is equally intriguing. As it turns out, Aoyama is not the only Quirkless member of Class 1-A, joining Deku in this unique aspect of their abilities.

This commonality shared by Deku and Aoyama, along with the latter’s close relationship with the entire class, has garnered sympathy for Aoyama. His remorse for betraying Deku and their peers has motivated him towards a journey of redemption.

Despite concerns from fans, there are hints in My Hero Academia that Aoyama’s redemption could come at the cost of his life. One particular detail that raises alarm is his statement in Chapter 400, where he declares that this will be his final day as a student at U.A. and he is willing to do whatever it takes.

After Deku is left without a Quirk in My Hero Academia Chapter 421, he is joined by other Class 1-A students who stand with him against All For One. Aoyama offers his hand, emphasizing the importance of their unity. This further foreshadows Aoyama’s potential “heroic sacrifice”in the ongoing My Hero Academia storyline.

According to one MHA fan on Twitter, Aoyama’s fate in the story may be dire as they believe he will ultimately meet his demise. They also speculate that AFO holds a particular grudge against him due to his betrayal.

Upon reading chapter 400, another reader expressed concern about the character, stating, “The phrasing used really gives the impression that he is like that. I’m worried.”

Despite this, there are some who do not share this viewpoint. Many fans of MHA argue that the series has a consistent track record of not killing off major hero characters. From the start, only one significant character, Midnight, has met their demise. Thus, it is unlikely that a character as vital as Aoyama, who is also a teenager, will meet a similar fate in the story.

Despite arguments stating that Aoyama’s sacrifice may not be permanent, as seen in the resurrection of Bakugo in a previous momentous event in MHA, it could potentially occur again with Aoyama.

“One reader reassures, “It’s alright, he will be returned soon. No need to worry.”

Another person states that they would be shocked if that occurred, as no other significant characters besides Midnight have passed away.

It is uncertain if Aoyama will truly redeem himself or make a return in the future My Hero Academia manga. However, fans can look forward to the reveal of Aoyama’s secret in the upcoming seventh season of the anime. The highly acclaimed series will begin its new season in May, and viewers can find out the correct order to watch My Hero Academia before then.
