Concord, the troubled hero shooter from Firewalk Studios, has been undergoing backend updates on Steam, leading to renewed speculation about its potential revival after a disastrous initial launch.
After its release on August 23, Concord was taken offline just 10 days later due to extremely low player engagement and mediocre reviews. Neither Firewalk nor publisher Sony has confirmed whether Concord will make a comeback.
Firewalk’s initial statement mentioned that the studio needed to “determine the best path ahead,” while offering full refunds to players who purchased the game.
Since its removal from online play on September 6, Concord has consistently received backend updates on Steam, with the most recent one being deployed on September 15.
The specific contents of these updates remain a mystery due to encrypted files, but fans are cautiously optimistic and intrigued by these developments.
Concord has continued to receive backend updates since going offline.
“It seems Firewalk/Sony is still active behind the scenes. I’m curious to see how this unfolds,” remarked a Reddit user who shared this discovery on Reddit, which sparked further discussion among other users.
“I hope they’re planning to bring it back. It would be disappointing to know the game was canceled before it had a fair chance,” another user commented.
Others suggested that character redesigns would be essential if Firewalk intends to revive the shooter. “I would consider purchasing the game if a redesign made them more appealing,” one user noted.
According to Steam Charts, Concord’s all-time peak of concurrent players reached 660. Interestingly, it seems that some form of in-game activity, possibly by Firewalk themselves, has persisted post-shutdown, as two players were recorded as having played in the last 24 hours.
Does this indicate something significant? Only time will tell, but it will be interesting to see what unfolds next.
