Uraume is one of the most enigmatic characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, but the latest update finally clarifies a significant aspect of their character.
While the Jujutsu Kaisen manga has concluded, it has revealed Uraume’s gender, which has been a topic of speculation among fans. Uraume has served as Sukuna’s subordinate since the Heian Era, forming a unique bond that transcends the typical master-servant dynamic.
In the concluding chapter, Sukuna strolls along the pathway where souls traverse and encounters a younger-looking Uraume, who is in tears. The two share a moment of comfort before Sukuna decides to embark on a different life journey with Uraume by his side.
Although Uraume has reincarnated as a woman, their original gender has remained ambiguous. Upon reuniting with Uraume during the Shibuya Incident, Sukuna initially does not recognize them; however, joy floods through him upon their meeting.
One JJK leaker on Twitter/X states, “Gege discusses Uraume’s gender and the names of the Culling Game players: I intended to mention this in volume 27, but due to a hospitalization, I missed my opportunity. Regarding the names of Culling Game Players: they all retain the names they held as humans prior to their reincarnation.
“This is because it is the physical body that carries the curse of the Culling Game Players, not the cursed objects themselves. Therefore, when Hazenoki was addressed by his name, he experienced a moment of confusion, thinking ‘So that’s what you’re going to call me, huh?’
“As for Uraume, he was originally male, but following a contract with Kenjaku, he has reincarnated in a female body (Himi Shiori)… Did I mention this elsewhere before?”
Thus, although the manga did not explicitly state anything regarding Uraume, Gege confirmed this information in the manga volume. Fans have long been puzzled by Uraume, but they finally have the answers they were searching for.
