Nam Joo-hyuk officially enlisted at the Nonsan Army Training Center in Chungnam on March 20 of last year. He undertook five weeks of basic military training, showcasing his leadership skills by serving as a platoon leader trainee. Afterwards, he was assigned to the 32nd Division Military Police, where he performed critical duties such as maintaining order, conducting investigations, and enforcing regulations within the military.
As Nam Joo-hyuk’s discharge date approaches, anticipation regarding his next project is heightening. He has received a promising offer to star in the upcoming drama Donggung and is reportedly considering it favorably. Donggung is a dark fantasy action series that narrates the tale of a ghost slayer and a court lady who infiltrate the palace to confront the spirits haunting it.
Actress Noh Yoon-seo is also under consideration for a role in Donggung. Noh Yoon-seo is an emerging talent who has captured attention through tvN dramas like Our Blues and Crash Course in Romance, the Netflix series Black Knight, and the film 20th Century Girl. If both Nam Joo-hyuk and Noh Yoon-seo join the cast, Donggung is expected to attract even more viewer interest.
While Nam Joo-hyuk’s participation in Donggung is yet to be confirmed, he is gearing up to reconnect with fans soon after his discharge. The excitement among fans regarding his return and his upcoming projects is palpable, with particular enthusiasm surrounding the possibility of Nam Joo-hyuk portraying the ghost slayer, Gucheon, in Donggung.
The last project Nam Joo-hyuk worked on before enlisting was the Disney+ original dark hero series Vigilante, based on a well-known webtoon of the same name. In this drama, Nam Joo-hyuk took on the role of the protagonist, Kim Ji-yong, a complex character who navigates the fine balance between good and evil. Through Vigilante, Nam Joo-hyuk transformed his image, delivering a dark and intense performance that resonated with fans during his military service.
Coincidentally, on the day of Nam Joo-hyuk’s discharge, Y (Choi Seong-yoon) from the group Golden Child is also completing his military service. Y served in the 5th Army Artillery Brigade and plans to connect with fans through a live broadcast on the 20th to celebrate his discharge. He has expressed deep gratitude to his fan club, Goldenness, and promised to return with a more mature version of himself.
