LGBTQ+ K-drama “Love in the Big City” Faces Protest from Religious Group
The narrative of “Love in the Big City” chronicles the ten-year exploration of writer Go Young, portrayed by Nam Yoon-su, as he navigates the complexities of life and love. The series utilizes a Hollywood-influenced directorial approach, with diverse directors for each episode; Hur Jin-ho, Hong Ji-young, Son Tae-gyum, and Kim Se-in each directing two episodes, each lasting approximately 50 minutes.
The series has encountered criticism from some conservative factions due to its representation of LGBTQ+ themes.
Regarding the backlash, Park Sang-young expressed an optimistic perspective, stating, “I shared my frustrations on social media, but then I considered, ‘Are they inadvertently promoting our project? Isn’t it Lucky Vicky? Don’t successful productions often stir controversy?’”
In response to the negativity from certain groups, Nam Yoon-su remarked that he remains unfazed. “When I see hateful comments, I merely find humor in them. Conversely, I receive an abundance of uplifting messages – I typically wake up to around 100 each day,” he said.
He elaborated, “Lately, I have sensed a shift in perspectives. People are becoming more open-minded, and I believe there is a promising path ahead for us. This realization moves me; it indicates that our society is evolving.”
“Love in the Big City” is set to debut on October 21.
