Naruto: Could Konan Have Defeated Obito with Knowledge of His Forbidden Jutsu?

Despite the passage of time since the conclusion of the Naruto anime, fans continue to enjoy speculating about different situations and outcomes within the series. One fan in particular came up with a theory in which Konan could have emerged victorious against Obito Uchiha if she had been aware of the Uchiha Clan’s forbidden jutsu.

Konan, just like Nagato and Yahiko, hailed from the Hidden Rain Village. As their country was ravaged by the Shinobi World War, they dedicated themselves to achieving world peace and formed the Akatsuki. However, after a conversation with Naruto, Konan and Nagato’s perspectives shifted. From then on, Konan devoted herself to guarding Nagato’s body.

How would Konan have defeated Obito if she knew about Izanagi?

Despite Obito Uchiha’s attempts to obtain Nagato’s corpse and extract the Rinnegan eyes in Naruto Shippuden, Konan had already anticipated this and devised a plan to defeat him in the Hidden Rain Village.

Konan’s research on Obito revealed that he could only maintain his intangibility for a maximum of five minutes. As a result, she realized that any attack she planned against him needed to last longer than this time frame.

Taking this into consideration, Konan devised a two-part strategy. The initial part of her plan involved a high-risk tactic of using paper bombs at close proximity to Obito. This plan would have resulted in both Obito and Konan being blown away if successful. However, Obito was able to thwart this attack by manipulating the paper bombs away from them.

It appeared that Konan had no alternate plan at the time. However, just moments later, she proceeded with the second part of her plan, causing the water body beneath them to split similar to Moses. This maneuver successfully caused Obito to fall into the water body.

Despite having the ability to escape the fall by warping himself elsewhere, Obito was met with a counterattack from Konan, who strategically placed paper bombs to prevent his escape. His space-warping jutsu rendered him intangible, but if he had been able to solidify, he would have been overwhelmed by the onslaught of paper bombs.

Nevertheless, Konan’s plan was not yet complete. She had managed to obtain 600 billion paper bombs and placed them in the water, ready to explode on Obito. These bombs were set to detonate for a duration of 10 minutes, giving Konan an extra five minutes to surpass Obito’s limited intangibility. With this strategy, Konan could have successfully defeated Obito Uchiha.

Regrettably for her, when Obito was on the verge of dying, he made the decision to sacrifice his left Sharingan eye and employ the Uchiha Clan’s forbidden jutsu Izanagi to alter reality and save himself. This technique, known as Izanagi, enables the user to manipulate reality to their advantage. Consequently, Obito was able to rescue himself and proceeded to impale Konan with a pipe.

Despite Konan’s skillful strategizing during the fight, Obito was able to emerge as the victor due to her lack of knowledge about his Izanagi ability. Had she been aware of this forbidden jutsu, Konan would have likely prioritized destroying Obito’s dojutsu in order to defeat him. Without his dojutsu, Obito would have had little chance of defeating Konan.
