The official staff of the anime Natsume’s Book of Friends has announced that the highly anticipated season 7 will be premiering on October 7, 2024. This exciting news was confirmed through a new promotional video and trailer released on Friday, August 30, 2024. Furthermore, the staff also revealed information about the theme songs and the artists who will be performing them.
Shuka produced Natsume’s Book of Friends season 7 as a direct continuation of the previous installment, which aired 11 episodes from April 2017 to June 2017. One year later, the franchise also released a movie called Ephemeral Bond. It is worth noting that the series is based on Yuki Midorikawa’s manga series.

Today, a special live stream titled Natsume’s Book of Friends Urushi ~Summer Banquet was hosted on YouTube by the official staff of season 7 of the show. During the stream, a new trailer and visual for the upcoming season were revealed. According to the clip, the sequel is set to premiere on October 7, 2024. Shortly after, both the anime’s website and X handle also shared the same news.
The airing schedule for Natsume’s Book of Friends season 7 has been announced. Episodes will be broadcasted every Monday at 24:00 JST on TV Tokyo, starting from October 7, 2024 (effectively Tuesday, 12 am JST, October 8, 2024).
The slice-of-life anime will air on AT-X every Tuesday at 11:30 PM JST starting from October 8, 2024. Japanese viewers can also catch repeat episodes on Thursdays at 11:30 PM JST and on Mondays at 5:30 PM JST.
After being broadcasted on television, the series will be available for streaming every Tuesday from 12:30 AM JST on Netflix, starting October 8, 2024. In addition to Netflix, the show can also be watched on d Anime Store and U-NEXT by fans.
Crunchyroll has obtained the authorization to broadcast the series in the USA (including North America, South America, and Central America), Europe, Oceania, Africa, the Middle East, CIS, and the Indian subcontinent.
Significantly, the most recent preview showcases Takashi Natsume, Madara also known as Nyanko-sensei, and other significant characters who will play crucial roles in season 7 of Natsume’s Book of Friends. The trailer effectively captures the essence of the series by highlighting the diverse cast and their unique personalities.
The brief video also gives a glimpse of the anime’s opening and ending theme songs. The opening theme, titled Alca, is performed by Hinata Kashiwagi, while Toshiki Kondo sings the ending theme, Komari Warai, which translates to “Troubled Laugh”in English.
In addition to the trailer, the official team has also released a key visual for season 7 of Natsume’s Book of Friends. The image features the main character, Takashi Natsume, and his companion, Madara (also known as Nyanko-Sensei), strolling across a bridge surrounded by vibrant autumn foliage.
Cast and Crew for Natsume’s Book of Friends Season 7
Hiroshi Kamiya reprises his role as Takashi Natsume, joined by Kazuhiko Inoe as Nyanko-Sensei (Madara). Akira Ishida portrays Shuichi Natori, and Sanae Kobayashi takes on the role of Reiko Natsume. Ryohei Kimura lends his voice to Satoru Nishimura, and Hisayoshi Suganuma plays Atsushi Kitamoto.
Kazuma Horie reprises his role as Kaname Tanuma, while Jun Sasada is voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro. Eiji Ito takes on the role of Shigeru Fujiawa and Miki Ito portrays Toko Fujiwara. Toru Taki is voiced by Rina Sato, and Seiji Matoba is played by Junichi Suwabe.
Takahiro Omori has been appointed as chief director at Studio Shuka for the upcoming season of Natsume’s Book of Friends. Hideki Ito will be directing the seventh season, with Sadayuki Murai in charge of the scripts. Akira Takata will once again be responsible for character design, while Makoto Yoshimori will be composing the music. NAS will serve as the music producer for the series.
The central focus of Natsume’s Book of Friends series centers on Takashi Natsume, a young boy who has had the ability to see Yokai or Spirits since he was a child. One day, he inherits a book called Yujin Cho, also known as the Book of Friends, from his grandfather. This book contains contracts that his grandfather had made in order to trap and control the spirits. Along with his trusty partner, Nyanko-Sensei, Natsume uses the book to either aid the spirits or set them free.
