Nayuta’s death tease in Chainsaw Man chapter 167 may not be what fans are making it out to

Just this week, readers were treated to the official release of Chainsaw Man chapter 167 on various Shueisha platforms. This marked the next installment of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s highly anticipated flagship series. However, the initial excitement quickly turned to terror as fans delved into Fujimoto’s latest creation.

In chapter 167 of Chainsaw Man, War Devil Yoru seemed to fulfill her promise to Denji in a disturbing manner. This led to speculation among some fans that there may be a “death flag”for Control Devil Nayuta. This term is commonly used among anime fans to indicate that a character in a series is at risk of dying or may die soon.

Similarly, the most recent indication of Nayuta’s potential demise arises in Chainsaw Man chapter 167 when her previous manipulation of Yoru through her Control Devil abilities appears to be reversed. Although fans may interpret this as a foreshadowing of Nayuta’s death, it is crucial to take into account the significant context and groundwork laid out for the limitations of the Control Devil’s power, which fans may not have taken into consideration.

Chainsaw Man chapter 167: A Subtle Moment Highlighting the Limits of the Control Devil

Prior to the release of Chainsaw Man chapter 167, readers had already witnessed the meeting between the Angel Devil and Aki Hayakawa as they confronted Control Devil Makima on a beach. Their purpose was to find a solution to Aki’s impending death. During this encounter, Makima slowly revealed her true self and offered Aki a contract, after he had requested one to save both Denji and Power. Initially confused, the Angel Devil gradually recalled his first encounter with Nayuta on an unnamed beach.

Despite being under Makima’s control again, Angel was able to resist her powers due to the intimacy and familiarity of the moment. Witnessing Aki being sacrificed for Makima, just as Angel was once forced to, evoked strong emotions that allowed him to break through the Control Devil’s abilities. This occurred while Makima was still alive and well.

Once again, in Chainsaw Man chapter 167, the vulnerability in the Control Devil’s powers is reaffirmed through War Devil Yoru’s recollection of her kiss with Denji. This serves to emphasize that this is not a sign of Nayuta’s impending death, but rather another instance of the Control Devil’s powers being circumvented.

Before Yoru recalled her kiss with Denji, the two were in a state of intense physical closeness, with their bodies touching intimately. Similar to how Angel was able to retrieve memories from Makima’s manipulation, Yoru’s heightened emotions in this moment helped her break through the memory block and remember her kiss with Denji.

Moreover, this provides more evidence that this is not a foreshadowing of Nayuta’s death, as Yoru vividly recalls her and Denji’s kiss. However, based on the way the panel is presented, it appears that she only remembers the kiss and not any other details. If Nayuta had died before or during this moment, it is likely that Yoru would have remembered all of their memories together instead of just a brief recollection of one specific moment.

Despite the uncertainties surrounding her current status and whereabouts, the evidence suggests that Control Devil Nayuta is still alive and thriving. Therefore, it can be concluded that Chainsaw Man chapter 167 does not serve as a death omen for the character, as the Control Devil’s powers have been shown to have limitations in the first part of the manga.
