NCT Taeil Under Investigation: Allegations of Group Sexual Assault

On June 13, allegations surfaced against Taeil, accusing him of sexual assault by a woman referred to as A. The day after, on June 14, Taeil hosted a live stream to mark his birthday where he engaged with fans. Tension arose when A posted a comment during the broadcast, declaring, “I hope you get punished for how you’ve tormented me. You are a criminal.” Taeil’s demeanor briefly shifted to one of distress yet he swiftly regained his composure, thanking his fans, “Thanks to the CIZEN (NCT’s official fan club), I can celebrate another happy birthday.” He then continued with a jovial spirit, organizing birthday celebrations and singing along to tunes.

A subsequently left another comment which expressed her displeasure: “You keep tormenting me. I hope you get caught. I want you to feel the same stress and pain I have endured.” She also replied to curious fans, asserting, “Moon Taeil is a criminal. He hacked and threatened with hidden cameras. You don’t know, do you? Moon Taeil seems nice, but he’s a shameless and terrible stalker.” Initially seen as mere hate comments, they have now garnered attention as important statements following the incident’s exposure.

Furthermore, on August 28, a forum post titled “NCT Taeil Incident” emerged within a university student community, coinciding with the statement from SM Entertainment regarding the sexual assault allegations against Taeil.

The post’s author claimed, “The incident was reported to the police over a month ago. The news has just now surfaced,” adding, “I’ve heard it involved three men and an NCT member. It doesn’t appear to be linked to Telegram; it resembles group sexual assault.”

A was allegedly sexually assaulted by Taeil and two of his acquaintances while she was intoxicated. On August 28, he was called in for questioning at the Seoul Bangbae Police Station regarding special rape charges, and on September 12, he was transferred to the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office. Current reports indicate that no other prominent figures are associated with the case.

Special rape charges apply in situations where a weapon is involved, or when multiple individuals engage in sexual acts with a person who cannot resist due to physical or mental incapacity. A conviction could lead to a prison sentence of seven years to life under the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes.

In response to the ongoing situation, SM Entertainment commented, “It’s challenging to provide insights on an active investigation.”

Earlier, on August 28, SM confirmed, “We have recently verified that Taeil has been implicated in a criminal case concerning sexual offenses. Acknowledging the severity of the situation, we decided that he could no longer participate in team activities and opted to part ways with Taeil following discussions.”
