NCT Taeil’s Livestream Controversy Resurfaces Following Special Rape Charges, Fans Show Outrage

In recent days, a video featuring NCT member Taeil during an Instagram live session on June 14 has been circulating extensively across various online platforms. It has come to light that Taeil was apprehended by law enforcement on June 13, following a report from the victim.

During the live stream, Taeil’s energy seemed notably subdued as he engaged with his followers. He expressed his gratitude, stating, “I genuinely appreciate all the birthday wishes. Your support made my birthday truly special.”

The YouTube channel that hosted this video is currently overwhelmed with comments from fans who feel deeply betrayed:

Taeil
  • The sparkle in his eyes has vanished completely.
  • I invested six years of my life admiring him.
  • This is beyond scary and unsettling. How could you betray your fans like this?
  • Your demeanor is so different from the Taeil I once knew.
  • Do not show your face around the other members again.
  • There seems to be no life left in his gaze.
  • You deserve to face consequences.
  • How could you behave this way after such serious allegations?
  • Special rape? What type of person does that make you?

According to a report by Chosun Ilbo on October 7, Taeil is under investigation by the Seoul Bangbae Police Station for allegations of special rape. His case has since been forwarded to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office last month.

The legal definition of special rape applies to situations involving sexual offenses against individuals who are incapacitated, particularly when weapons are involved or two or more perpetrators are present. If found guilty, this charge can lead to a prison sentence ranging from a minimum of seven years to life imprisonment, as outlined in Article 4, Paragraph 1 of the Act on Special Cases Regarding Sexual Crimes.

Reports indicate that Taeil stands accused of sexually assaulting a woman who was inebriated, in conjunction with two other non-celebrity individuals.

In light of these allegations, SM Entertainment, the agency representing NCT, issued a formal statement following his police questioning: “We have confirmed that Taeil is facing charges in a criminal case related to a sexual offense. Understanding the gravity of the situation, we made the decision that he can no longer participate in team activities and, after discussions with Taeil, we have opted for his departure from the group.”
