NCT’s Taeil Accused of “Special Rape” in Connection with Group Sexual Assault Case

In August, a post titled “NCT Taeil Incident” surfaced on Everytime, a platform dedicated to sharing information related to universities. The post’s author remarked, “This case was referred elsewhere over a month ago. The information just became public today, which makes it feel unexpected.”

The author elaborated, stating, “I heard that three individuals, including an NCT member, were involved,” and added, “It appears this incident did not occur on Telegram, but it reportedly involved group sexual assault.” The NCT member alluded to is understood to be Taeil.

On October 7, Chosun Ilbo initially reported the allegations against Taeil, indicating that he had been investigated by the Seoul Bangbae Police Station and that the case was referred to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office the previous month.

The charges of special rape involve engaging in sexual acts against a person who is incapacitated, either using a weapon or involving multiple participants. Should the allegations be substantiated, the consequences could include a prison sentence of no less than seven years or potentially a life sentence, as stipulated in Article 4, Paragraph 1 of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.

Reports claim that Taeil was accused in June of sexually assaulting a woman who was intoxicated, in conjunction with two non-celebrity individuals.

Earlier, SM Entertainment commented, “We have recently confirmed that Taeil is entangled in a criminal case involving sexual offenses. As we looked into the facts, we acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and concluded that he could no longer participate in group activities. Following discussions with Taeil, we have determined that he will step down from the team.”
