NCT’s Taeil Removed Amid Group Sexual Assault Allegations

On October 15, SM Entertainment officially announced that, “Taeil’s exclusive contract has been terminated as of today.”

Currently, Taeil is under investigation by the prosecution regarding serious criminal allegations. He, alongside two other non-celebrities, has been accused of sexually assaulting an incapacitated woman, with the incident coming to light in June.

The news that Taeil’s case has been referred to the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office for special sexual assault charges has generated considerable public outcry.

Special sexual assault charges are particularly serious and apply when a suspect wields a weapon or engages in sexual acts with a person who is unable to consent, either on their own or collaboratively with others. Should the allegations prove to be accurate, Taeil may face a minimum sentence of 7 years in prison, or potentially life behind bars.

“SM Entertainment announces that the exclusive contract with Taeil has been terminated as of October 15, 2024.

Taeil is under a criminal investigation, which has prompted the termination of his contract. We reached this decision with his consent, given the loss of trust in him as an artist.
