In recent news, NCT’s Yuta received criticism for reportedly making a comment that could be interpreted as “fat-shaming”towards his fellow member, Haechan.
During a recent content featuring NCT members re-watching a performance of “Fire Truck”by NCT 127, Yuta reminisced about the rehearsal process he and Haechan went through for the stage.
“During one of our performances, Haechan was lifted up and I reminded him not to eat beforehand. We had rehearsed so extensively that I could easily sense a difference in Haechan’s weight if he had eaten. It was frustrating for me whenever he did, and I would express my annoyance to him.”The male idol recounted, expressing his concerns about Haechan’s weight at the time and advising him to refrain from eating.
“it was the part where haechan went up (being lifted up) so i always told haechan not to eat. we had practiced to the point where you could tell his weight changed if he ate food. so if he ate, i got really annoyed. like “you ate food, right~? (to haechan)” pic.twitter.com/MOkUZG2nha

A video capturing Yuta’s remark has been released on the social media platform X (previously known as Twitter), amassing more than 20,000 retweets and 10 million views.
The retweets clearly indicate that netizens are highly upset by Yuta’s statement, accusing him of essentially “fat-shaming”Haechan. Many also pointed out that Haechan seemed uncomfortable and made an awkward expression immediately after.
“I don’t want to speak for heachan or be the person to bring this up, but I feel the need to address it. It’s not acceptable that he was body shamed, especially considering he was a minor. I understand that South Korea has strict standards, but as a teammate and someone who hc himself cares about, it’s not right for you to proudly share your body shaming experiences. As a fan, I also hope that NCT will stop talking about weight.”
