Negai no Astro is not Tokyo Revengers 2.0 and Wakui truly deserves a second chance

Despite being Ken Wakui’s latest manga series, Negai no Astro is not a continuation of Tokyo Revengers 2.0. Readers who are familiar with the author’s previous work often have conflicting views on it. While the manga had a promising beginning, it eventually fell into a repetitive pattern and overstayed its welcome.

Despite the manga having numerous issues, the author’s ending of the series was particularly problematic.

Many fans are wondering if Negai no Astro will bear similarities to the Tokyo Revengers series. However, there are several reasons why this may not be the case. Although it is still early to make a judgement, with only one chapter released so far, there are some factors that support this statement.

The change in publications will result in a significantly distinct reading experience. While Ken Wakui’s initial manga series was published by Kodansha, his current work, Negai no Astro, is a shonen title under the publication of Shueisha. With this shift, the manga author will undoubtedly be directed to craft a completely new atmosphere compared to his previous works. As a result, the overall reading experience will be affected.

Despite coming to his current work and releasing the first chapter to a pleasantly surprised fanbase, there is still a significant amount of caution being practiced by fans. This is likely due to the treatment of the Tokyo Revengers series, which was hinted at as a completely different manga title even before its debut.

The combination of a post-apocalyptic backdrop and a Yakuza theme in Negai no Astro has been enthusiastically embraced by fans. While the beginning may not have been particularly remarkable, the author skillfully executed the exposition, effectively establishing the setting and providing a brief insight into the character dynamics. In this aspect, Ken Wakui certainly did not disappoint his readers. He also expertly ended the chapter with a cliffhanger, leaving readers eager to continue reading.

The art and character designs in the manga were exceptional. Ken Wakui’s distinct style adds a rough quality to the artwork, making the characters appear tough and resilient. Fans were pleasantly surprised by the introduction of new characters in an unexpected setting. Additionally, the incorporation of supernatural elements in the story enhances the reader’s overall experience with the manga.

In general, the beginning of the series was excellent and stood out in every way when compared to the author’s previous works. However, as only one chapter has been released so far, it is premature to make a judgment about the series. Nonetheless, the first chapter has captured the interest of readers, to say the least. Fans should definitely read the first chapter and give this manga title a fair chance.
