The highly anticipated fishing anime, Negative Positive Angler, will be making its debut in October 2024. The official staff of the anime confirmed this exciting news through a promotional video and visual on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. Studio NUT has been chosen to handle the production of the series. In addition, the staff also unveiled the main cast and production team for the show.
Notably, a new website and Twitter account (now known as X) have been created in order to share PVs, visuals, and other information. According to the website, the main storyline follows Tsunehiro Sasaki, a man with only two years left to live. One fateful day, he is pursued by his debt collectors and ends up falling into the ocean. Fortunately, he is saved by Hana, a young girl who is deeply passionate about fishing.
Studio NUT’s New Fishing Anime Negative Positive Angler Set to Premiere in October 2024
The official staff announced on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, that the highly-anticipated original fishing anime, Negative Positive Angler, will be produced. To confirm the premiere date, Kadokawa streamed a promotional video on its official YouTube channel, revealing that the series will air in October 2024, during the Fall season.
At the same time, a new website and X account were created to distribute the PV and a visual to fans. The promotional video showcases the tranquil view of Tokyo Bay, featuring Tsunehiro Sasaki, the main character, as he catches a variety of fish.
The brief video clip also showcases other significant characters happily enjoying their freshly caught fish. In addition to the preview, the creators released a visual for the upcoming anime, Negative Positive Angler.
The accompanying image showcases the enchanting landscape of the Tokyo Bay coast at dusk, serving as the backdrop for the story. Furthermore, the graphic displays the logo of the anime and confirms its scheduled release in October 2024.
Negative Positive Angler: Cast, Staff, and Plot
Mutsuki Iwanaka plays the role of Tsunehiro Sasaki, the main character. According to the production team, Sasaki is a university student with a somber demeanor. Fairouz Ali lends her voice to Hana Ayukawa, a lively third-year high school student who has a deep love for fishing. Additionally, Kaito Ishikawa has been added to the cast as Takaaki Tsutsujimori, a youthful employee at Every Mart.
Heading the staff is Yutaka Uemura, who is directing the series at Studio NUT. This highly respected studio was also behind the production of the Blue Giant anime movie. Joining the team is Tomohiro Suzuki, who will serve as both scriptwriter and supervisor, while Hiromi Taniguchi has been selected as the character designer and chief animation director.

According to the anime’s website, the plot of Negative Positive Angler centers around Tsunehiro Sasaki, a college student burdened with a significant amount of debt. Sadly, his doctor informs him that he has only two years left to live.
Feeling disheartened, Tsunehiro resigns himself to a life of despondency. However, fate takes a turn when he is pursued by debt collectors and accidentally falls into the ocean. Miraculously, he is saved by Hana and her companions, including Takaaki.
The teenage girl encourages Tsunehiro to try fishing. This leads to a series of events, including his employment at the convenience store where Takaaki and Hana are also employed. During this time, he discovers a newfound love for fishing.
