Hot Ones, the unique celebrity talk show, might be transitioning to Netflix with a live episode format.
As reported by Bloomberg, Sean Evans, the show’s longtime host, will continue to present Hot Ones, which enhances the celebrity interview experience by inviting guests to eat progressively spicier chicken wings.
These upcoming episodes are intended exclusively for Netflix, though it remains uncertain whether each live broadcast will also appear on YouTube, depending on negotiations with Hot Ones’ owner, Buzzfeed Inc.
Currently, First We Feast, the channel behind the show, has 14 million subscribers, with Hot Ones episodes regularly receiving the highest views. Notably, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s episode aired on July 25, accumulating over 20 million views.
Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds’ Hot Ones appearance has garnered over 20 million views.
If Netflix successfully finalizes a deal for original Hot Ones content, achieving even a fraction of those viewership numbers would significantly enhance its live events programming.
The streaming service has been actively expanding its live content offerings in 2024, including acquiring streaming rights for two NFL matches on December 25. Additionally, the anticipated fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson is set to be streamed live on November 15, providing it proceeds as planned.
Concerns about the fight occurring have been raised due to Tyson’s ongoing health challenges, with many fearing it could end up being either an exhibition match or be canceled entirely.
Securing Hot Ones would mark a notable victory for Netflix, although Bloomberg mentions that their sources “asked not to be identified” as discussions “could still fall apart.” Thus, while the potential for this deal exists, it remains uncertain if it will materialize.
