Netflix response to anime leaks

On Friday, August 10, 2024, reports about the recent leaks of the popular Netflix series, including Dandadan anime, Ranma ½ anime remake, Terminator Zero anime, and others, began to circulate. According to the latest updates, Netflix has acknowledged the source of these leaked series and films and is taking swift action to remove them from online platforms.

The initial leaks included the first two episodes of the Dandadan anime and three of the first four episodes of the mentioned Ranma ½ anime remake series. However, in recent days, these leaks have expanded to affect several other Netflix anime series, as well as various live-action and animated films and series.

Netflix Suffers Data Breach from Compromised Post-Production Partner

The origins of the leaks for the Dandadan anime and others were confirmed by Netflix, as mentioned earlier. The company stated the following:

“One of our post-production partners has been compromised and footage from several of our titles has unfortunately leaked online. Our team is aggressively taking action to have it taken down.”

Besides the three mentioned anime series, the entire Gekijoban Mononoke: Karakasa anime film was also leaked. This is particularly worrisome as the film had not received an official international license at the time of its leak. This could indicate that the platform had intended to stream the film globally, but the surprise was spoiled by the leak.

Among the leaked content, there is also a continuation of Arcane, an animated series based on the popular video game League of Legends and its characters. Additionally, the leaks reveal upcoming seasons of Heartstopper (Season 3), Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld, and Spellbound, as well as a new movie titled Plankton.

Although the series is not available for streaming on Netflix, it should be noted that Re:ZERO season 3 episode 1 was included in the leaks of several anime shows, all of which were watermarked from the Japan Expo 2024 event in France that occurred in July 2024. The leaked content includes the Dandadan anime, Terminator Zero anime, and a remake of the popular series Ranma ½.

The English dub premiere of the Dandadan anime is scheduled to take place at Anime NYC on Sunday, August 24. Asian theaters will start showing Dandadan: First Encounter, a condensed version of the first three episodes, on August 31. European audiences can expect the premiere on September 7, with North American audiences following on September 30.

The screenings will eventually encompass more than 50 countries and regions, spanning Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa. The schedule for these new screenings will be revealed by mid-September 2024. The anime’s official premiere will take place in Japan in October, and it will be available for streaming on Netflix and Crunchyroll on a weekly basis as it airs in Japan.

  • Dandadan anime’s opening and ending themes allegedly leaked ahead of October premiere
  • Full Terminator Zero anime, Re:ZERO season 3 episode 1, and more allegedly leaked ahead of premieres
  • Arcane season 2 gets leaked online four months ahead of its premiere
