Netflix Subscription Price Increase to Take Effect Tomorrow

Starting tomorrow, July 31, Netflix’s most affordable plan without ads will no longer be available, requiring users to either upgrade to a more expensive subscription or tolerate ads while watching.

In order to keep up with intense competition, streaming services have had to implement price increases in recent years.

Peacock increased its prices for the second time in two years earlier this month, Prime Video began charging users to remove ads, and Max raised its prices in June.

Since 2013, Netflix has consistently made changes and increases to its pricing, with yearly hikes being implemented. In fact, just last year, the cost of its Basic plan went up from $9.99 per month to $11.99.

Netflix’s Basic plan is being scrapped on July 31

Regrettably, individuals currently subscribed to Netflix’s Basic plan will be required to transition to a different subscription by July 31.

“According to Netflix, the Basic plan is no longer an option for new or returning subscribers. However, current users on the Basic plan can continue with this option until their plan is altered or their account is terminated. This announcement has been communicated to users through their television or streaming devices since the beginning of July.”

In the future, you will be able to select from three different plans.

  • Standard with ads: $6.99 per month
  • Standard: $15.49 per month
  • Premium: $22.99 per month

On the other two plans, additional members can be added for $7.99 each, which enables multiple households to share the same account following the password crackdown.

The Premium subscription offers four distinct advantages: the ability to stream Netflix on four devices simultaneously instead of two, access to 4K Ultra HD and HDR content rather than just 1080p, the option to download TV shows and movies on six devices rather than two, and the enjoyment of Netflix’s spatial audio feature.

Naturally, you could also choose to cancel your subscription completely – but then, how will you be able to view Season 5 of Stranger Things?

As you consider which plan to select, take a look at all the TV shows available for streaming this month and find out when the new episodes of Cobra Kai Season 6 will be available on the platform.
