After an incredible array of new true crime additions in 2024, Netflix has stirred up a whirlwind of emotions with the release of *Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter*.
Arriving on Netflix on September 12, *Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter* has rapidly established itself as the must-see documentary of the month.
This two-part series chronicles Cathy Terkanian’s quest to solve the mystery of her daughter’s disappearance in 1989, shortly after she was put up for adoption. The pursuit of answers reveals shocking and unsettling truths, making it one of the most exasperating true crime stories available on the streaming platform.
Viewers have expressed their frustration with the documentary, not due to its quality, but rather because of certain individuals featured in the episodes. Clearly, the heartbreaking narrative is too much for some to handle.
As one Reddit user noted: “I don’t think I’ve ever been more enraged by a person as much as that b*tch Brenda. It’s like what Cathy said, that she feels more anger towards her for allowing this to happen to an innocent child, AND for condoning and excusing past criminal offences and possibly others we may never learn about.”
“And her keeping half of Alexis’ ashes infuriated me. I can’t even explain it. But what a great documentary, and I’ve already recommended it to all my friends and family!”
Another viewer commented: “I haven’t encountered such a compelling documentary subject in a while. The featured mother drew me into the case and what transpired was incredibly touching and tragic.”
The commentary points to Brenda Bowman, the wife of Dennis Bowman, who confessed to killing Alexis after being apprehended for an unrelated murder from 1980. Although she declined to appear in the documentary, Brenda plays a significant role in the narrative.
“Damn, that was awful,” expressed another viewer. “Great documentary, but horrific story. I won’t spoil it, but wow! It’s unbelievable how certain events unfolded, casting doubt on other cases. I’d say it’s a must-watch for true crime enthusiasts.”
“Really sad story. The level of evil just kept escalating as the documentary progressed. It really makes you wonder how some individuals become like this,” another viewer added.
As of now, *Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter* ranks third on Netflix’s Top 10 movies chart.
