On September 7, 2024, Netflix’s Blue Eye Samurai was announced as the winner of the ‘Outstanding Animated Program’ category at the Creative Arts Emmys 2024. The dedicated staff members of this animated series also secured three individual accolades.

Blue Eye Samurai is a US-France animated series produced by Netflix and collaborates with other production companies. The series premiered on November 3, 2023, and received a renewal for a sequel season just a month after its initial release, due to its phenomenal reception worldwide.

Blue Eye Samurai Shines at Creative Arts Emmys 2024

In the Creative Arts Emmys 2024, Blue Eye Samurai was nominated in two categories. The primary category that highlighted the animated series was ‘Outstanding Animated Program,’ with its fifth episode, The Tale of the Ronin and the Bride, earning a nomination. When the winners were revealed, the series triumphed in this category.

This same episode has been recognized with multiple awards, including ‘Best Edited Animated Series’ at the American Cinema Editors Awards 2024, along with ‘Outstanding Achievement for Editorial in an Animated Television’ and ‘Outstanding Achievement for Writing in an Animated Television / Broadcast Production’ at the Annie Awards 2024. Remarkably, the episode has never lost any awards for which it has been nominated.

The additional nominations for Blue Eye Samurai came in the ‘Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation’ category. The nominated staff members included Brian Kesinger (character design), Toby Wilson (production design), and Ryan O’Loughlin (storyboard).

In this jury-voted category, three of the nominated staff members from Blue Eye Samurai were declared winners, marking a remarkable achievement for the animated series as a whole.

This animated series also garnered praise from renowned Japanese game developer Hideo Kojima, who described it as ‘a visual work that transcends the common sense of animation.’

This action-adventure animated series is set in ancient Japan during the Edo Period, a time marked by significant economic and cultural developments. The narrative follows a female warrior named Mizu, who roams the streets of Japan seeking revenge against four men.

As a master swordswoman, Mizu must devise a flawless plan to enact her revenge. Due to societal constraints on women in Japan, she must conceal her gender and distinctive blue eyes to confront these men before it becomes too late for her and her country.
