Netflix’s Controversial New Movie Starring the Hemsworth Brothers

It’s no wonder that the top movie on Netflix is soaring in popularity, with the star-studded cast including Russell Crowe, Luke Hemsworth, and Liam Hemsworth.

However, the film received mixed reviews upon its initial release, as reflected by its Rotten Tomatoes score and placement on the streaming service’s Top 10 charts. There appears to be a divide between critics and audiences regarding the 2024 film.

Despite debuting in cinemas in February, the film Land of Bad only earned $6.9 million at the box office, falling short of its estimated $25 million production budget.

Despite its underwhelming theatrical run, William Eubank’s action thriller has risen to the top spot on Netflix’s movies charts since its release on the streaming platform last Thursday (July 18).

We have frequently observed that Certified Rotten films featuring popular actors tend to perform well on Netflix (such as The Snowman, Atlas, and On the Line). However, this is not the case for Land of Bad, as there is a noticeable divide in its success.

The film received a 65% score from critics based on 62 reviews, but audiences gave it an impressive 94% rating.

Despite receiving less favorable reviews, RogerEbert.com stated that “the movie’s antagonists are reduced to generic obstacles for Kinney… Land of Bad is ultimately a pandering drama with elements of an action movie.”

“According to Inverse, the “familiar plot”of Land of Bad is well executed at the beginning, but the film ultimately becomes overcomplicated. The outlet suggests that the film could have been easy to love if it ended 30 minutes earlier.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Crowe’s portrayal of veteran drone pilot Captain Eddie Grimm “Reaper”has received high praise from many reviewers for his scene-stealing performance. Despite spending most of the movie sitting and staring at a screen, the actor manages to captivate the audience.

Despite some negative reviews, many viewers at home have given positive feedback, with one individual on Rotten Tomatoes describing it as “one of the top military ops action movies of 2024.”

One individual exclaimed, “Throughout the final portion of the film, I was on the edge of my seat, passionately rooting for the main characters. The tension was palpable. I absolutely adored it.”Others praised the “amazing action”and “incredible cast.”

Despite some positive reception, there have been those who did not appreciate it as much. For instance, one individual stated, “It’s a cliché of a cliché in a war/terrorism action film. The acting was satisfactory for a 2.5 star rating.”

The plot centers around a new Air Force recruit (Liam Hemsworth) who is assigned to a team of soldiers, including his brother Luke who plays Abel, for a crucial mission in the Philippines.

Despite being guided remotely by a veteran commander (Crowe), they are faced with overwhelming odds and lethal threats, making it crucial for them to ensure their survival.

If you want to develop your own perspective, you can currently watch Land of Bad on Netflix. Additionally, there are several other movies coming to streaming this month, along with the top films of 2024 thus far.
