Colleen Hoover has made waves with her novel “It Ends With Us,”which has recently been adapted into a film now streaming on Netflix. Fans are eagerly hoping for a continuation of Lily and Atlas’ narrative, but the likelihood of such a sequel is shrinking.
Based on Hoover’s best-selling book, “It Ends With Us”intricately weaves the story of florist Lily Bloom as she navigates a complex love triangle involving a neurosurgeon, Ryle Kincaid, and her first love, Atlas Corrigan. However, the film’s buzz has been overshadowed by tensions between its lead actress, Blake Lively, and director Justin Baldoni, particularly highlighted during their promotional tour.
The Uncertain Future of “It Starts With Us”on Netflix
While viewers can now enjoy “It Ends With Us”from the comfort of their homes, the anticipation for a potential sequel, “It Starts With Us,”looms large among fans. Unfortunately, the outlook for its adaptation remains grim.
The crux of the issue lies in the recent fallout between the cast and director. Unless new talent joins the project, it is improbable that the sequel will see the light of day. The tension has been palpable since August 2024, when fans began noticing the disconnect at the film’s world premiere, with Lively and Baldoni captured separately on the red carpet. Instead, Lively was accompanied by her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and fellow actor Hugh Jackman.
Adding to the drama, it emerged that Reynolds had written a key scene in the film, drawing surprised reactions from the crew, including Baldoni. This revelation fueled speculation about existing tensions on set.
Further complicating the situation, Baldoni faced allegations regarding his on-set behavior. According to sources cited by Page Six, some cast members reportedly found working with him challenging and uncomfortable, particularly Lively regarding her post-partum body image. Such an environment made collaboration strained and led to significant cast dissatisfaction.
Subsequent reports from People confirmed that Hoover and the cast were unlikely to collaborate with Baldoni again. Although none of the allegations have been officially confirmed, the surrounding controversy has undoubtedly cast a shadow over any potential for “It Starts With Us.”
According to Variety, Baldoni possesses the cinematic rights to both the film and the sequel novel by Hoover, which explores the deepening connection between Lily and Atlas. However, industry insiders remain skeptical, stating, “This is uncharted territory, and nobody has any idea of what a sequel could look like. There’s probably no world where these two will work together again.”
As it stands, “It Ends With Us”is now available on Netflix. For viewers looking for more cinematic content, check out the best movies of 2024 and explore additional new releases streaming this month.
