When is the Alaskan wilderness enjoyable? When you are not present. Outlast, Netflix’s reality show, is about to test 16 new contestants.
Despite the endless selection of distressing dramas on Netflix, it is not always the latest TV series that prove to be the most challenging to watch.
The addition of Outlast to the streaming service in 2023 was a game-changer for fans of reality TV. It brought 16 unsuspecting newbies into the Alaskan wilderness to face the elements in a quest for a massive cash prize, all documented over eight thrilling episodes. These lone rangers were forced to collaborate in order to emerge victorious.
If you have already watched the first season and are eager for more, you’ll be happy to know that Season 2 has finally premiered on September 4.
Despite having a diverse group of players, some who are in dire need of money and others who simply have a passion for the game, the rules have remained unchanged. The game still consists of four teams and the objective is to outlast the competition, but players are free to switch alliances at any point.
If you are unable to find a new team within the designated timeframe, you will be dismissed.
Despite the messy concept, many fans will still agree. As one fan posted on Reddit, “I just finished the show and it remained a mess from start to finish.”
Overall, the original idea for the barebones was good, but without clear rules, it quickly became chaotic. Some players viewed it as a fair test of survival of the fittest, while others saw it as an opportunity to cheat and manipulate their way to win.
“While the cheating and underhanded tactics did add an element of interest, certain actions were taken too far.”
Another person concurred, stating, “I enjoyed the show and thought it had a strong premise, but there were some odd choices made. However, my respect for the show completely diminished when they introduced consequences-free raiding. It was clear that the game was not fully developed and that was embarrassingly evident.”
Unfortunately, Outlast Season 2 is sticking to the familiar Netflix strategy of releasing in two parts. The first set of episodes is currently available on the platform, but the conclusion won’t be released until September 11.
