Netflix’s One Piece Live Action Season 2 Ending with Drum Island Arc Causes Chaos in the Fandom

Netflix’s One Piece Live Action season 2, which was updated on August 20, 2024, has finally provided fans with information about its storyline and which arcs it will include. However, the announcement has been met with mixed reactions from the fandom as the second season will not feature the Arabasta arc and will instead conclude with the Drum Island arc.

Despite the production team not yet releasing any statement on the reason for their decision, the fandom has become divided. Some have accepted the decision, while others have expressed their disagreement in a unique manner.

What arcs will Netflix’s One Piece Live Action Season 2 Adapt?

The author of the source material for Netflix’s One Piece Live Action series, Eiichiro Oda, has confirmed that the show’s second season will cover the Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island arcs.

The unexpected aspect of this arc was that the creators of the live-action series decided to minimize any deviations from the source material and devote an entire season to adapting the arcs leading up to the Arabasta arc, which fans had anticipated to be included in the second season.

Additionally, the fandom was also unable to accept the choice of arcs that would be included in the second season, with the main focus being on the concluding arc, the Drum Island arc.

Reactions from the fandom

Despite some resistance within the fandom, there was a strong belief that adapting arcs prior to the Arabasta arc would ultimately be a negative decision.

The primary reasoning behind their argument was that implementing the arc in season 3 or beyond would result in a dull and uninteresting storyline, while ending season 2 with the Drum Island arc would diminish the impact of Chopper’s introduction.

However, there were also members of the fandom who were pleased with the live-action production team’s selection of arcs. They believed that the Arabasta arc deserved its own season and that it was essential for the full fandom experience to have all major arcs adapted before it.

In addition, a fan addressed those who criticized Drum Island as a ‘bad’ arc by highlighting some of the most beloved moments from the arc, such as Luffy carrying Nami and Sanji up the mountain and the beautiful cherry blossom scene.

“This is an AWFUL idea. There is not enough story here, this would be like making east blue but not having arlong park in S1 Alabasta is the climax to these arcs, not having it in the season included in these arcs will have a lot of people lose interest Drum island is not a finale,”another fan said.

“Luffy gonna be old asf tho they can’t be taking so long,”another one claimed.

“Ending Drum Island with Ace’s entry and glimpse of Crocodile in the post-credit scene will move mountains. Saving Alabasta for season 3 is a great idea since it is a long arc and it has so many fights,”a fan said.

“Everyone shitting on Drum island being the finale of S2 One Piece LA a fake fan fr. How can you see all this and say it was a bad arc,”another fan claimed.

Final Thoughts

The One Piece remake was recently updated, and the author’s remarks about the remake emphasized the importance of ‘improvisation’ instead of simply copying and pasting the original content.

The production team for Netflix’s One Piece Live Action season 2 is taking an intriguing approach by dedicating an entire season to the Arabasta arc before adapting it. This decision may indicate that the team is prioritizing crucial arcs.
