Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 will begin filming soon, says star

Netflix surprised everyone by releasing a successful live-action adaptation of One Piece, and the adventure is not over: according to one of the actors, filming for season 2 will soon begin.

Launched in August 2023, the live-action adaptation of One Piece performed brilliantly on Netflix. Showrunners Matt Owens and Steven Maeda adapted Eiichiro Oda’s manga with grace and finesse, retaining the cartoon nature without making the whole thing ridiculous or futile.

It didn’t take long for the streaming platform to announce a sequel to these extraordinary pirates. We knew that production would take place in the year 2024, but no date had yet been given until then. It seems that the wait is over, however, according to one of the main actors.

Filming for One Piece Season 2 Reportedly Begins Soon

Mackenyu Arata (or Maeda for her real name), who plays Roronoa Zoro in Netflix’s live-action One Piece series, revealed during the finale of the Bandai Card Games Fest in Japan that the second season should soon begin production.

When asked – in a video posted on X/Twitter – if he will participate in other card tournaments, the actor explains: “I will no longer be in this country, I will be in another One Piece.”

When interviewers seemed uncomfortable with the idea that the star had revealed confidential information – the request had been made not to mention any news regarding One Piece – Mackenyu Arata added that they had not specified an exact time period.

Finding the right time for filming can be tricky, since two members of the One Piece cast, Iñaki Godoy and Jacob Romero, are also on the adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The live-action series about Aang’s return only recently came out, which may require promotional obligations on the part of the stars.

In any case, it is very likely that news about One Piece season 2 on Netflix will arrive soon.
