A recently released anime film on Netflix, Ultraman: Rising, has already earned a high rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
As of currently, Ultraman: Rising holds a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critiques for the anime film began to surface this past weekend and have been overwhelmingly positive, indicating a promising future for the movie.
Despite the ambitious nature of the project, it’s off to a strong start. It has the potential to become the largest Ultraman superhero movie to receive a worldwide release, which would be a first for the franchise. Despite its nearly 60-year history, the hero has remained primarily popular in Japan since its initial debut.
There are multiple contributing factors to this, with a major one being that previous Ultraman releases did not receive widespread distribution. However, with Netflix now in charge of distribution, millions of subscribers will have immediate access to Rising on their dashboard starting on Friday, June 14, 2024.
Additionally, Shannon Tindle, who has worked on various franchises such as Static Shock, Gravity Falls, and Kubo and the Two Strings, makes his directorial debut alongside co-director John Aoshima, also an animation veteran.
Tindle collaborated on the latter and also co-wrote Ultraman: Rising alongside Marc Haimes, based on an idea he has been nurturing for nearly two decades. The film is steeped in rich history and, judging by its success thus far, the hard work and patience have paid off.
In the movie, we are introduced to Ken Sato, the newest Ultraman who takes over the role from his absent father. Despite being a conceited professional baseball player, Ken initially has no interest in following in his father’s footsteps. However, caring for a young kaiju helps him learn valuable lessons about being a responsible family man.
If that sounds appealing, Ultraman: Rising will be available on Netflix starting June 14, 2024.
